X58A-UD3R rev 1.0 : No boot
« on: April 04, 2012, 10:11:54 am »
Hi team,

I have bought a computer in second hand. It was working well, i decide to buy a SSD Crucial M4, clone my system and boot on it. OK
But after one week, the PC is becoming to restart one time, two times a night until no booting at all.

I have 4HDD + 1 SSD + CG 5870 + 2 Memory card + I9 940. Here are the test I did:

- one memory card, no graphics card: NOK
- one other memory slot,  no graphics card: NOK
- another memory card,  no graphics card: NOK
- no memory card, no graphics card: there was a long beep once but now i have nothing: NOK
- extended clear CMOS: NOK
- plug only MB + CPY fan + Proc: NOK
- test with new power supply: NOK

When I power on, the led of:
SB Voltage L3: RED
LEDs next to the memory slot at bottom right (from bottom to the top): The forth led is green, the fifth is orange. These led are surely for DDR phase led if we consider NB phase led has 3 leds.
Also, i see a microsecond the red led of my cooler master v8 (cpu fan)

I really don't know what to do more :(
I have the SN but not sure if it's still guaranteed..

Here is the manual: http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_xhd_e.pdf

What can i do?

Many thanks,

Hi and welcome.

Firstly I don't understand what you mean by NOK so if you explain your abbreviation it would help. Please try an use standard English language so there is no misunderstanding.

Could you also make a list of your components by make and model please. You can make this as a signature if you want to.

Hi again,

Thanks for clarifying those points for me. My first thought would be that the power supply isn't powerful enough as a 550w is recommended as the minimum and you have quite a few components there that are eating up the extra wattage. If possiblew try with a decent one (like the Corsair) of around 750w or more if possible.

I would think that the motherboard is still uinder warranty as it is covered by a three year warranty from  the date of manufacture. If you post the serial number I can tell you exactly when that was.

Your motherboard was manufactured in December of 2010 so it is still well within warranty. That will run out in December of 2013 so no hurry there.

The 650w may still not be enough. I woluld suggest removing all the components power cables except for the essential ones like the motherboard, CPU and fan, memory, C drive, GPU and see if you have any more luck.  If you still hasve no luck I would suggest doing an extended clear of the CMOS before loading Optimised BIOS defaults. Follow these instructions exactly please :

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least 6 hours before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Hi,

I did the extended clear CMOS like this:

NB: only MB + CPU Fan were connected and powered.

- unplug the power cable
- push power on
- unplug the MB battery
- push and maintain the power on for 10 secondes
- plug back the MB battery
- plug the power cable
=> no boot :(

If it is not sufficient, I can do it again with the 6 hours of waiting.

No it might work as a normal clear CMOS but it is not the same as what I have suggested which is an extended clear. Please follow the instructions exactly.

That is unusual and I haven't ever known this procedure not to work. It would indicate to me that there is a hardware fault maybe with the PSU or something.

The next thing is to remove the motherboard from the case and test it on the workbench.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory/graphics card and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard. Add the keyboard and mouse and try and boot. The system should try and make a beep or series of beeps. Please post what sounds it makes.

Question 1 : have you a BIOS screen with minimal configuration (only CPU , a good Graphic card , one memory stick )  ?

I think not

Question 2 : with only CPU +  one memory stick + PS2 keyboard have you led ok when you use NUM LOCK key  ( led on / off ) ?

Hi,

I see nothing on my screen. As I said before, I even tried with only MB + cpu + cpu fan but success (no beep, no boot).
My keyword stays off (led off).

Thanks for helping,
