ga-x58a-udr3r replacement ok ??
« on: April 02, 2012, 04:31:25 pm »
Hi everyone, I have just received my PC back from repair, and after a day, I suddenly discover that the repair shop have switched the motherboard

(ga-x58a-udr3r)  from hw rev 2.0 to hw rev 1.0.

I am not quite happy about this, because I feel I now have a motherboard that are around a year older, that the one I had before.

I there anyone that can tell me what the actual difference is  between those 2 boards ??.

The new (old) motherboard seems to be quite noisy, the cpu fan is running around 1970 rpm.

Do you think this this is normal repair practice ??

regards bch123

Hi and no I don't feel that it is normal procatice to swap oput components especially for an older version. The date code can be read easilly enough but that is hardly the case. In some ways the original (rev 1.0) is better in as much as often when they release the next revision they will cut backm on certain components. You would have to check into yours in particular but I know on my GA-X58A-UD7 the power phases were considerably reduced and other bits and pieces were cut.

Why did they swap boards on you ?

Was there a valid reason for doing so ?

The date code is part of the serial number and is worked as week/year. So 1114 would be the fourteenth week in 2011. The warranty is worked out as three years from this date (date of manufacture).

I personally think 1.0 is better for the whole range, but that does not mean they should have the right to do that to you!

It will make your warranty with Gigabyte shorter since the board is older as Dark Mantis mentioned.  I would complain and demand a Rev. 2.0 board, or your old board back (And then RMA with Gigabyte)  if you are concerned at all about the warranty

It is lucky that the OP, bch123 had his wits about him and picked up on the difference as it would be hard to complain down the line when something went wrong and the board was found to be out of warranty then. It is certainly very bad practice and customer relations!

hi everyone, the old rev 2 board had problems with usb 3.0 ports, witch gave errors when copying large amount of data, both on usb 2 and usb 3 disk's.

the motherboad was part of a complete PC, so I guess the warrenty covers everything.

I will contact the repair shop after easter holydays, and complain.

thanks to all you

Well good luck and don't let them palm you off with some other scam as they sound a bit like cowboys! Just look in the parking lot and see if they have tied their horse Trigger up out there!

Please do let us know what happens and how you get on.
