Cannot boot from CDROM after change to AHCI

Cannot boot from CDROM after change to AHCI
« on: April 16, 2012, 05:36:47 am »
I recently switched from IDE to AHCI in the BIOS of my GA-MA785GMT-UD2H and now the system just ignores the Boot from CDROM Option.
Everything else is fine: boots to Windows OK and Windows runs OK.

Hi there,

believe it or not this is fairly common and is usually down to the DVD/CD drive's firmware rather than the motherboard. I have experienced this myself on several different boards and the only solutions usually are:

In BIOS set the OnChip SATA Ports 4/5 type to IDE and connect your drive to one of these ports.
Check to see if there is a newer Firmware version for your DVD/CD drive.
Get a newer model DVD/CD drive.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Hi

Yes, what absic said is perfectly correct and is something we see quite often. SATA optical drives are very cheap now and you can pick up a good one for under £12.

Updated MB Bios to latest level.

Can now boot from DVDRAM without need to set SATA 4/5 to IDE.

I can't boot  from CDROM Option (LG GSA H66N sata) in my GA-970A-UD3, rev 1.1, Bios F6.
HDD boot ok in windows 7 64bits.
I don't know if usb can boot, i haven't tried  yet.

¿Is the problem the DVD firmware ?

Thank's.
