GA-X58A-UD3R power-on fault...

Hello!

I'm having problems with a GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0. It fails to power on,
turning off again after just a second or so - enough time for some of the
LEDs to activate and the GPU/CPU fans to spin a little, but nothing else.
Then a couple of seconds after turning off, it tries to power on again
but with the same result - brief flash of LEDs and fan spin, then turns
off. This cycle repeats until I just turn off the PSU completely.

I should mention that I already have a 2nd board of the same model
obtained much earlier which is running fine, so all subsidiary components
are known to be A-ok, ie. CPU, cooler/fan, RAM, GPU, disk (which is
already installed with Win7/Ult/64 from the earlier board), but here's a
summary:

  CPU: XEON E5540
  Cooler: TRUE with Scythe SFF21F
  GPU: EVGA GTX 460 FTW SSC
  RAM: Corsair XMS3 3x2GB DDR3/1600 1.65V (TR3X6G1600C8)
  Disk: Seagate Enterprise SATA 750GB (ST3750330NS)
  PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 750W Modular
  Media: Sony DVDRW (tested without this connected, no effect)

I've closely examined the board, I can't see any damaged or burned
components. I removed everything and checked the CPU socket, all the pins
look A-ok, none bent or missing, etc.

I tried the usual steps for a BIOS reset (battery removal, power cord,
etc.), nothing worked, though I'm open to suggestions of alternative
procedures.

Any ideas anyone?


If it's of any help, some LEDs are lit long enough each time so that one
can make out their colours, which are:

- The group of three LEDs next to the battery, the one furthest away
from the battery (next to the capacitor), this flashes red twice.

- The group of seven LEDs inbetween the ATX power socket and the last
DIMM socket, four of these LEDs (left to right, ie. the one closest to
the battery first) light up as follows: GREEN, GREEN, ORANGE, ORANGE.

- The group of six LEDs to the right of the ATX power connector (just
above where the word 'DDR3' is stenciled on the mbd), these all light
up as follows (left to right, ie. the one closest to the ATX connector
first): GREEN, GREEN, ORANGE, ORANGE, RED, RED.

Don't know if that conveys anything useful, but just thought I'd mention.

Sorry for the poor image quality, it was taken with an old lowish-res
Sony dig camera (I suggest turning off any audio, it never seems to
record sound that well).

I am having the exact same issue with a H61M-D2H-USB3. Using i3 2121 CPU, 4gig of RAM. I have tried the power supply on another pc which works fine. But the fans spin slightly, then something clicks, like a HDD cLick, then it powers off and powers on and does the same over and over. All the parts are brand new... Any ideas....

I've had similar problem with my X58 UD4P.
After every possible thing to do on my own i decided to take my pc to service where i bough it. Warranty on mobo and psu where still valid.
So 3 months later I received my pc with a new PSU. I took so long becuse at first psu sended to manufacturer service said that everything was ok with it.
Gigabyte service also told that mobo is ok...and after additional test PSU was senden once again to manufacturer. They gave me a new one and since then everything seems ok.

I don't know if that helps but maybe making the mobo to use second bios can make it post if PSU is ok.
Ive tried that while having my problem but now I forgot how to do that
