EP45-UD3P/9800 GX2 Stuck in Boot Loop [HELP]
« on: April 22, 2012, 06:42:14 pm »
I spent the last 6 hours upgrading my motherboard, CPU, Graphics Card. I had a ASUS A8N SLi-Pemium motherboard with a AMD 4800+ that I replaced in my current tower case with my new EP45-UD3P and Q6600 Intel Quad Core along with my current 9800 GX2 PNY edition 1GB.

Anyways, I got everything built and I go to turn on the computer and it will stay around for about 3 to 5 seconds then shut off completely then it will turn itself back on and keep doing that over and over. There is NO display at all, black screen is all I get.

After that, I cleared the CMOS settings with a jumper and took the battery out and put it back in and I tried using a cheap PCI VGA card and it works fine with that! Can go into the Bios and everything.

Every time I hook my GX2 back in, it just keeps doing the boot loop with a black screen. I know for a fact it's not my GX2 as I was just on it yesterday before I started upgrading my tower case.

I unhooked all my dvd rom drives and hdd's when testing and 1 stick of ram, still no luck.

I am going crazy, any help will be very helpful  :-\

Model of the motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P (rev. 1.6) Bios ver. FD 2009/11/24
Model of the memory: G.SKILL F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK (4x2GB / 8GB total)
Model of the CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

I think those cards have a 8 pin + 6 pin power connector.Make sure connectors are firmly in place.
Atleast 580-650 watt PSU with 40 amps on 12volt rail. :)

Yes, I tried new 6 pin and 8 pins to the GPU, and a new 12v molex to the mobo, same results.

When I'm in my bios, I get this message:

"The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking or changes of voltages. Last settings in this page may not coincide with current H/W states. Press any key to continue..."

I'm thinking the factory settings has low voltages set now and reason why my big power hog GX2 won't boot.

Could I be right?

Did you uninstall all drivers( lan, chipset, gpu, audio )before firing up new mobo?
May have a driver conflict from older AMD gpu to a Nvidia gpu card. ???

No, I was testing this motherboard with my other NVIDIA 7950 gt ko grasphics card and made a new fresh windows 7 on a spare hdd I haqd laying around.

I originally got this computer bare bones. It came with a mid case / ud3p mobo / artic freezer pro 7 heat sinnk / intel quad core 2 CPU.

It had no hard drive with it so there was nothing I could UN-install anyways.

What else should I try?

UPDATE:

So I hooked up my old motherboard all back up together and the GX2 runs fine on it... I knew it was gonna be like that. I am going to try 1 more thing then I'm finished. I'm gonna install the chip set drivers that I never installed when I was testing it all out.

May be worth trying both pci-e slots if you havent done so already..
Trying booting in safe mode
Also worth booting with your 7950 and then uninstalling that card and all drivers via device manager

I have had the same issue going from an old 7600 to a 460 on an asus board - couldnt get into the OS
without first removing all the older drivers

Thanks for the reply, I tried both PCI-E slots. I did a fresh clean windows install so the drivers wouldn't be the issue I think.

did you do the fresh install with the older graphics card in place?
if not and you loaded the OS using the new card  I would say you have a driver/directX issue etc

Yeah, it was my only choice. I used a cheap PCI VGA card.
