Had Video with GPU but now wont boot with Mobo VGA
« on: April 29, 2012, 06:26:11 pm »
Situation is, just built this machine:

Gigabyte UD3H-B3 board
550 Ti EVGA
16GB Vengeance
60GB SSD for Windows 7 64 Bit
Corsair 800 Watt PS
Intel i5-2500k
etc...

Now, been built, working fine for 2 months....but I took out 550 ti to sell it because im going to upgrade...everything worked fine, video...post...booted to windows. Perfect. Now that i've taken card out, using the motherboards VGA it will post, I can get into BIOS, but when it ends it post, shows the hard drives, cd roms, etc....the Motherboard beeps and monitor says "no signal input", this is where I dont understand why it wont even show windows is starting, what is causing it to stop where its supposed to load the OS, any input would be helpful as I have a PC that posts but wont boot off Mobo's VGA.

I've noticed with these new Intels a simple hardware change requires a disconnect/connect of the ATX power connectors. Once you power on, go into BIOS and make sure Init Display First is set to Onboard and Onboard VGA is set to Always Enable or Auto which I sure you already knew.

Tried that, and I had the settings set but it still will say "loading operating system...." and then restart it doesnt show starting windows logo so somewhere its not loading bootfiles, but I dont understand how it worked fine with a Video card but now it doesn't, Ive ran the repair disc and it is ok. So it should boot...wtf video card

Before you removed the card did you uninstall the drivers for it?

Hi

Try doing an extended clear of the CMOS. After that you can load Optimised BIOS Defaults and alter any boot options that you normally would. Follow therse instructions exactly:

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery overnight  before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

No, I didn't remove the drivers for the GPU and thats where I messed up. Perhaps a simple F8 would have sufficed and could have gone into safe mode but after trial and error I ended up Re-OSing the  drive and nothing was lost since my information is on data drive so now I know for future reference. Thanks for all the input  ;D
