Gigabyte update and AHCI

Gigabyte update and AHCI
« on: April 30, 2012, 05:36:18 pm »
Hi, I've just upgraded to an AMD FX 8 3.6 gig processor for my GA-990FXA-UD3 board. I updated all the drivers, the processor installed fine and is working as fast as I expected. However, my two Crucial SSDs with my operating system on one, and games on the other, have both reverted to IDE, from their AHCI modes. Previously they were both set to AHCI and worked blisteringly fast. Now, they seem somewhat sluggish in comparison. I've been into bios, tried making changes in the registry as advised elsewhere, in order to reset them. However, the system hangs on boot until I revert to IDE. Msachi is present in system 32 drivers, but doesn't seem to be available to the bios. I run Windows 7 64 bit with 16 gig of memory. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Sounds like you might have to secure erase them and re install windows. Try putting it in ACHI mode and booting off of windows 7 disk and run start up repair if that doesnt work then re formatt them.If set to ACHI mode and you cant boot off of disk then there is an underlaying problem.

Thanks autotech, but I've just managed to work it out without a reinstall. I had a 1TB hard drive in sata 4, and a DVD player in 5, both set to IDE as well as the two SSDs in 1 and 2. I disconnected all but the boot SSD in sata 0 , set the bios to AHCI and rebooted. Lo, SSD in AHCI mode, and running the way it was supposed to do. I installed the second SSD in 1, system booted. Setting for sata 4 and 5 remained at IDE, so I reinstalled each drive in turn, rebooting each time just to make sure. Everything is now the way it should be, but thanks for the answer.
PS I did try the repair option but that hadn't worked.

Am very glad you got it sorted i know SSD can be a pain at times. Mine has little info on it but the OS and a couple of games so it takes me all of 20 minutes to reinstall. Glad you didnt have to.
