GA-990FXA-UD7 Motherboard shows 8.8 post error code.
« on: May 06, 2012, 01:50:42 pm »
So,I just finished building my new Personal Computer.

It has an AMD 8 core,3.1 GHZ processor
It has the 990FXA-UD7 Gigabyte Motherboard
It has a 1000W Silent Pro Gold by Cooler Master
It has an AMD 1GDDR5 Video Card
It has a 1TB HardDrive
It has 32 GB of Vengence Corsair Memory

So the thing you have to know is that every fan, lights and buttons on the compenents, motherboard and chassis work fine but I do not get an Image on my screen when I boot up.On the Motherboard it shows and error code 8.8   -I have searched my manual for this post error code but there is nothing about it in there, there are all kinds of other codes but that one is not among them.I also searched the internet to fix this problem but it also does not appear anywhere. So this is kind of the last option?Any Ideas what that  ""8.8." code means?I have been very carefull with the installation.

New Information:I plugged in another power to the ATX_12V and now the error code is F2,I read somewhere that that means the motherboard doesn't support the CPU and you have to install an older CPU in order to update bios,is that correct?

The F2 is your bios version so here is what you need to do. Update bios to at least the F4 version that supports your processor. But you board has bios all the way up to F8 so you might just want to do the most recent one.Yes you will need a processor that is supported by your bios on board now to flash it to the newer bios.  Following i give credit to absic for the floowing information.

If you are not sure how to flash BIOS using the QFlash Utility here's a quick how to for you:
The safest and best way to flash BIOS is to use the QFlash Utility.

There are a couple of steps to take before updating BIOS the first is to download the latest version from the web. Be careful that you get the right BIOS version for your motherboard and in particular check out your motherboard's revision number prior to downloading.

Once you have downloaded the correct BIOS Unzip the folder using WinRAR, 7Zip, Winzip etc., Save the folder to your desktop for easy access.

You will find a USB Stick is the best way of flashing BIOS so make sure the stick has been formatted in FAT32. Next copy the BIOS folder, that you have extracted (and saved on your desktop) to the USB Stick.

Leave the USB stick plugged into your PC and re-boot. As the PC starts up press the "END" key on your keyboard (you might have to press the "END" key several times during start-up before you see the message regarding QFlash, this is normal so don't worry just as you would the "DEL" key for entering BIOS). Don't worry if you enter BIOS instead as you can get to the QFlash utility by pressing the F8 key on your keyboard from the BIOS Home Screen.

The PC will enter the QFlash utility and you need to locate the folder on the USB Stick and then follow the on-screen instructions.

When the BIOS update is complete re-boot the PC and go back into BIOS.

Load optimised defaults, save and exit.

When the PC reboots you will see that the new BIOS is installed.

NOTE: Sometimes the latest available BIOS is a beta version and although it will work you might find some things are missing and overclocking, for example, might not work properly. If in doubt I would recommend that you do not update to BETA unless there is a noted "fix" for an issue that you are facing or if advised to by Gigabyte.

Hopefully the updated BIOS will solve your CPU problem.

So I have to buy an older AMD processor that is supported by the BIOS,replace my current one and flash it all the way to F8?There is no other way?

If so-which AMD processor should I buy?My motherboard is REV:1.0
Socket type:AM3+

Yes unless you have a friend that has one that will work.

http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3880&dl=1#

Go to CPU support on the top right and click on it. Looks like earlies bios is F2 so any CPU that fits it will work.

AMD Sempron LE-145 in romanian online stores is 30-40 Euros.Buy it, update BIOS , assemble a HTPC with it afterwards :)

Or get it ,use it to update ,return it to the store and get for that money something useful for better air flow in the case. The second option is quite abusive though :)
