Can't access bios with WQHD resolution monitor
« on: August 12, 2012, 05:34:51 pm »
Hi,

I have a problem similar to one of the problems described here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,8924.0.html
That is, I can't see the BIOS using my 2560x1440 monitor (HP ZR2740w).
My mainboard is GA-Z77X-UD3H.

I'm connecting using the DisplayPort which according to the spec can handle this resolution.
First time I connected the monitor via DisplayPort, the motherboard kept rebooting (could hear a click, but not the beep), and the monitor remained blank. Only when I connected a VGA CRT monitor, was I able to see that the bios is asking me whether to load optimized defaults.

Current behavior:
1) when starting with only the HP monitor via DisplayPort, I see the bios splash (but abnormally displayed, with only the center part stretched accross the entire screen), the if I press Del to enter BIOS, I see just a blank screen.
2) when starting with both the HP monitor via DisplayPort and another CRT monitor via VGA link, I see the bios splash correctly on both monitors and then when I press Del I can see the BIOS menus properly on both screens!

How to proceed in order to manage with just the HP monitor?

Thanks!

you can go to tweaktown website to update to latest f13 bios to try.
also auto adjust your screen scanning

Thanks, will try that ASAP.
Also, what do you mean by auto adjust? is it a BIOS setting?

Then again, before installing a beta BIOS, I would like to see what other solution there might be. Someone told me that the culprit might be the input frequency of the ZR2740w, which can only work at 2560 x 1440 @ 60 Hz. So, when both DisplayPort and VGA are connected the Intel HD 4000 is feeding video at 60Hz, but when only the DIsplayPort is connected the video is fed at 120Hz. I can't confirm this since my monitor doesn't have an OSD.

Anyone know if this might be the problem?
And if so, how can I manually set the refresh rate to a lower value?

Thanks again.

can you adjust your screen resolution--down the frequency from 120mhz to 60mhz in windows?
i don't think bios setup can accpet the wide range resolution.

Hi, I'm using Ubuntu and the refresh rate is set to 60 Hz. But anyway, I don't this this setting is relevant for the BIOS.
If the resolution is too high then the MB should use a reduced one, or have a setting for that. Is there such a setting? probably not...
