UD5H Wont post

So today i recieved all the parts for my brothers pc build and when i assembled everything on the motherboard box and pressed the power button the power light stays on, the debug code light flashes on then off, and my m-bios and b-bios lights are flashing. All the fans turn on, gpu fans are spinning but i have no output going to the monitor.

I'm lost, i've tried changing the bios, using a single stick of ram, switching the ram slots, removing the c-mos battery. Any ideas?

Hi and welcome.

Firstly can you post the complete motherboard model number along with the revision number please ?


Try removing the motherboard from the case and doing a basic build outside on the motherboard box or something similar.

It's a GA-Z77X-UD5h Revision 1.0. I've only assembled a basic build on the motherboard box. It hasn't been put into a case yet.

Make sure that you have all the power cables both the 24 pin and the 8 pin 12v. It might be worth checking for bent pins while the board is out in the open and easilly accessible.

Take all the usual anti-static precautions.

Very carefully remove the heatsink and fan. Probably a slight twisting motion is best to release the two as the thermal paste can act like a glue.

Once off remove the CPU taking extreme care both physically and electrically(static) and place somewhere safe.

Make sure that the lighting is very good and even.

Now scrutinise the socket for any pins that are out of alignment, even slightly.
If in any doubt whatsoever take a couple of macro (close up) photos of the socket and post them on here for us to check. Try not to use the flash, just good ambient lighting.

Also look at the bottom of the CPU at the lands (little copper circles) and make sure that there is a mark in each somewhere near the centre.
If there are any missing marks or any of the pins are obviously bent then that is your problem.

Before refitting the CPU clean off all residue of the old thermal paste and the same on the heatsink and then apply a small amount (about the size of a grain of rice) to the centre of the CPU once it is inserted in the socket.

Did you take some macro photos of the pins ? If so post them so we can scrutinise them for you as I have had so many members in the past swearing that all the pins were ok only to find later that there were some damaged ones.

Couldn't really get too many shots that were decently focused even using a tripod but i think these are ok.

Well the RA request I sent has been accepted, So i'll be mailing the board back on monday.

just an update, i got a status report on the RMA of my board and apparently there was some minor damage to the pcb that i may have missed.



Could this be the cause of the issue? will the warranty cover this seeing as i dont have any way to prove the damage wasn't inflicted by me?
