GA-EX58-UD3R failure - TWICE!!
« on: December 06, 2009, 07:02:36 pm »
Core i7 build in September. Worked fine for 2mths.
Switch computer on - Fans spin and MOBO lights on for 1 second  - switches off for 2 seconds - Fans spin and MOBO lights on for 1 second - in a continuous loop. No beeps, nothing on screen.
New power supply, New Processor - no better
Only solution a new motherboard (same model)
Worked fine for 2 weeks then - Then exact same problem.
Looks like others have the same problem - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-256094_12_0.html
But am I the first to have this problem twice?
Could the RAM damage the motherboard?

Have you ran memtest86 on your ram? You should of done this first before replacing anything as its the easiest thing to check.
If I had a hammer.. I'd hammer in morning.

A good idea. I've given up on this Gigabyte MOBO though. I've ordered an Asus one. So when I get it, I'll do  memtest and report the result here for future info.

Installed new ASUS P6T SE MOBO. 3D Mark 06 reports it is significantly slower (13677) than the Gigabyte board (15881- not overclocked)
Memtest86 doesn't seem to like my 64-bit WIndows 7 system, so I can't check the RAM - but all seems to be working fine. I didn't even need to do a fresh install - presumably because it is the same chipset.

OS doesn't matter when it comes to memtest, you should just be able to burn the image to disk using nero image burner, or similar, then set to boot from CD http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
There's no place like ::1

Thanks
I did Memtest86 and the RAM checked out fine - so I must have just had to fauulty boards - from different companies. What bad luck!
