Ga-x58a-ud5 rev 2.0 - Intel controller or Marvell?
« on: September 16, 2012, 04:29:42 pm »
I've been using the marvell controller all this time and had no problems with it, but now upon further researching i see people saying it is unstable and it performs worst than the intel one. My question is, which one should i use?
Most topics i've seen are from late 2011, maybe the issues of the marvell controller have been fixed on the most recent drivers?
Anyone could help me with it? And what settings should i use in bios that are most effective?
Thank you all in advance!

Hi

You are quite correct that the Intel ICH10R chip is much more stable than the Marvell 9128. The drivers no doubt have been improved but not to the point of it being properly usable. The ports will work for optical drives and SATA2 as long as you are not pushing them too hard but for any SATA3 drives or RAID0 arrays it is better to use the Intel Southgate chip.
