GA-990FXA-UD7 digital post code 00 ?

First post so be patient with me.
Pc fails to start boot process. Was working before and now nothing.
Digital post reads 0-0 then briefly flashing 8-8 .
No hard drive spool up, no beeps, no indication anything is about to happen.
Nothing on the monitor, does not power up even. (Orange to green light etc.)
Tried a new 700w power unit, no change.
Took the cmos batteries out overnight and replaced, no change.
Ram is in correct position.
No overclocking took place, and no smell of burning etc.
Motherboard code is SN 1124..... Only a year old or so.
Is it likely I have a stuffed motherboard ? Would returning it to be repaired be a good option ( RMA etc In uk)

Any ideas welcome. Cheers Simon.

Hi and welcome.

I would first try clearing the CMOS. Now you have already removed the battery for a while but it would be worth trying again. Follow these instructions exactly.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery overnight before replacing it.
 
Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.
 
You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Once complete make sure that both BIOS chips have the same version on them.

If you have a PS2 keyboarrd connect that instead of the USB version as it is more reliable.

From a cold start with the power to the machine switched off press the power button and then enter the BIOS by pressing Del.
 Then when you get to the main screen press F9.
 
This will bring up an extra screen which will display more information about the two BIOS versions. Assuming they are different exit the BIOS and shutdown.

Again press the power button and this time press Alt + F12 where you would normally use the Del key to enter the BIOS. You will find that then your monitor will turn black and you will see:

Press [Enter] to start copying main BIOS to backup BIOS...

When you press Enter more text will appear saying:

Writing BIOS image.... xxxKb OK

Once completed more text will show:

BIOS successfully recovered! Power off or reset system!

Do as it says. Both Main and Backup BIOS chips now store the same BIOS version. You can now reboot as normal.

I think it is now clear I am new to this as I have I have not clarified my problem.
In my first post, I said that I had nothing on my monitor, by this I meant I had no signal to the monitor. No flashing cursor, no bios page, nothing; so I cant do any of the suggested actions.
Several days ago, I unplugged the power,  removed the cmos batteries for 24 hours and pressed the CMOS button. The made no change to the start up process.
I will however do as you suggested, and see what happens. Many thanks.

OK, that's a good start. At least we will know where we have been.

If you haven't got any signal at all then it is quite probablr that either the monitor or the cable is at fault. First try a new cable as that is the cheaper option. Make sure it iks plugged into the correct port too.

When you have done all that post back.

Hi, I'm using the monitor and the cable in question  at this moment on an old dell pc, so they are good. I'll try the battery removal one more time and post tomorrow. Thanks.

Do you hear any beeps ?!

Rebuild the system out of the case ,on a wooden surface , with minimum setup (no HDD-s /DVD-ROM) .
See also if booting without RAM modules there is any beep.
If no sound then maybe you have a dead mobo.

Any virus problem in last 2 weeks ?!

And please use a good/quality , known to work power supply .A generic 700W power supply may not deliver 200W in reality.

No beeps at all, and no virus problem. Will leave battery out overnight.
 Just reading other post of possible short, so starting to understand motherboard out recommendation.
Reading the web I'm also starting to read between the lines, a post  code of 0-0 is not a real code. I think it means nothing at all is happening !.

Update; with regard to battery removal, and reinstallation this has been done.
No change was observed,  no beeps, no change in digital post code, nothing on the screen, no boots sequence noticed from the components.
Later on I removed the memory and switched on, expecting some alert/beeps etc, but nothing. Any thoughts?
With regards to removing the motherboard from the case and reconnecting on another surface; would this have any effect ?

Not being funny but are you sure that you have a speaker (I am not talking about the audio system) or buzzer installed because there have been so many people who don't actually add one to their setup ?

Just checked, a small 4 pin jobbie direct to the motherboard.
So yes, it has a speaker, but i'll borrow another tomorrow just to check if it is damaged, although this is unlikely. Thanks, simon.

Threw another working speaker onto the mboard, but no sound on startup.
Am I looking at a goosed motherboard ?

Not to labour the point but these speakers(buzzers) are solid state devices (piezo electric sounders) and only work one way round. If you look carefully there is a + and a - sign stamped onto them normally so do make sure that it is oriented correctly.

If you check that and still have no sound then I would say that you need to check the motherboard out of the case with just a minimal setup.

The next thing is to remove the motherboard from the case and test it on the workbench.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory/graphics card and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard. Add the keyboard and mouse and try and boot. The system should try and make a beep or series of beeps. Please post what sounds it makes.

If you ve already tested the barebone set-up on a wooden surface just RMA.

It s some sudden death.This could  be from a power surge from/thru  the PSU  or a LAN cable even if there was no storm.

I agree Vezina but I don't think he has actually done this. If I am correct then it is something that needs checking.
