GA-MA790GP-UD4H qflash can't find drive
« on: October 12, 2012, 05:07:00 pm »
my ordeal started some time ago when win7 wouldnt boot and I got the DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER. Seeing as how I dont have a disk, I tried to Install another copy. All went well until it couldn't find drivers, so I put in the gigabyte utility disk and then it said the drivers needed updating... installation cancelled. So I went to gigabyte and downloaded latest drivers in a mb.exe file but windows couldnt find it whether it was in CD or flash drive.
Next up I tried to format the whole disk. I got Dban to start up but then dban said "I probably need to update some drivers"
So now I'm thinking qflash, I need to update the bios. So I go to gigabyte and download version f7c, which is another mb.exe file and copy it to flash drive. I put the pendrive in and get to qflash and when it says update driver I hit enter and it says can't find drive!!
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong before I lose all my hair. Many thanks

Hi there,

from what you are describing I think you are trying to use the wrong file from the BIOS update. The file you download is a self-extracting 7Zip file which contains 3 elements. Check here http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.0.html  for details of how to update your BIOS using QFlash as this may help.

If you could post back with your full system specs (see here http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2195.msg10772.html#msg10772 if you're not sure of the information to post) it would be a great help to those wishing to offer further help &  guidance to you.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

It s still not clear why he needs to update BIOS.
It looks like some issue with the HDD before needing the update.
I am not sure he knows what he is doing updating BIOS wise ,let s hope he doesn t brick the board. :)

Hi

I wouldn't advise updating the BIOS at the moment as you don't really need to in my opinion. It is something that can be chancy so probably best leave it for now. I too like Vezina feel that you are just firing in the dark which isn't a good way to go. As absic said please post all your details first.
