Computer does not start - EP45 DS4 - Phase leds are lit red

Computer does not start - EP45 DS4 - Phase leds are lit red
« on: October 06, 2012, 03:30:44 pm »
As in the subject - out of nothing the PC stopped working. On startup, it runs all the fans (system, CPU and GPU) but there is no beep sound.
So after silently activating it just hangs like that and that's it.

I've noticed that:
- 5 and 6 Phase leds are lit red
- Sys Fan1 is slowly blinking blue (you can hear a delicate "tick" sound)
- ACPI LED - S4/5 - is lit (even if I turn off the computer)

I can't exchange hardware to see which one is broken (I don't have a friend with this kind of hardware)
So anyone could suggest what part of the hardware may be bad - based on the leds configuration?

Try disconnecting the HDD(s) and DVD(s) and see if you can boot up. If it does then one of those is bad.
If not try 1 memory stick at a time. If it fails at any one stick thats the problem.

Could be your PSU also.

I've:
- disconnected all the HDDs - no change
- changed the GPU - no change
- changed the ram - no change
- changed the CPU - no change

I need the specific information about the meaning of comunnicates the Mainboard gives.

Hi

OK try this first.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Turn off the power.

Remove the 24 pin connector from the motherboard. Remove all the other connectors from the PSU to components.

Connect one case fan to one of the PSU molex connectors.

Use a straightened out paperclip or something to bridge the BLACK and GREEN wires on the 24 pin plug from the PSU.

Plug in power again and observer the effect.

If the fan fails to turn the PSU is dead.

If you have a multimeter test the outputs of the various lines on the 24 pin connector and molex plugs.

Well I don't have a separate case fan.
The case fan is build in to the PSU and is working.
Anyway when I start the pc I can see that the PSU fan and the GPU fans are working. The CPU  fan does not start but when pushed a bit is working to. I suppose that the CPU fan is not meant to start from the startup. Or does it mean the power suply is not enough? It would be strange, because the system in that exact config was working normally for a year now.

From what you say the CPU cooler is not working properly and that could be your problem. If it is overheating it will shutdown to stop damage. It can happen very rapidly.

But not like before beep on post.
And I've got this huge radiator from the razor xtreme.
So I don't supose it's that.
