USB3 ports running at USB2 speeds on GA-Z77X-D3H (rev 1.0)
« on: October 07, 2012, 10:01:37 am »
Both sets of USB3 ports, VIA & Intel , on my GA-Z77X-D3H are running at USB2 speeds (about 30mb/s).

The USB3 memory stick and memory card reader work at 120 mb/s on another system (using a Fresco Logic controller).

Any ideas how to cure this ?

Running all the latest drivers from the Gigabyte site, bios F16c on Windows 7 64bt.

USB3 is enabled in BIOS?
Latest VIA USB 3.0 Driver is 6.1.7600.3105

Btw,
from where you get BIOS F16c?
Possible to upload here?
Thanks.

USB3 is enabled in BIOS?
Yes, but that option is only relevant to the Intel chipset anyway.

As I said, all the latest drivers used.

Direct for Gigabyte tech support, so I can't redistribute it.

Further to this. It appears that a powered external HDD (Hitachi Touro) works on all ports @ 140mb/s.

So it seems this problem is limited to unpowered USB3 hardware.

Could this be a power failure issue on the motherboard ?

Hi,

Take a look at my most recent post on USB 3.0 issues here -- http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,9959.msg74921.html#msg74921

The possible fix includes speed problems too.

I don't think that's at all relevant, but FWIW i73770k & 32gb Corsair ram

I've tried the USB-IF test suite and it won't run 'couldn't find xHCI host'

So how do I get that installed ?

Good morning

Please refer to http://forums.tweaktown.com/windows/48643-windows-7-problem-usb-3-0-part-5-rollin-news.html

They refer to USB.ORG tools among others.

Windows 7 has a lot of problem dealing with third party USB hosts.  The usb.org tools will bypass all that jazz and make proper registry modification in order for the two chipsets to work.

Disable the "Wake on...." in BIOS and use regular USB mouse and keyboard since wirelessi mouse and kb could also make problems.  After resolution of your USB problem you will be able to use your wireless mouse and keyboard.

You might have problems dealing with resume from sleep or resume from hibernation with Windows 7.  Beta version 8 is even worst.

Cheers

Good afternoon

You may want to try the Microsoft USB 3 driver correction wizard available at http://download.driverwhiz.com/Driverwhiz.exe

Curious that Google doesn't have any hits on that, or that it's not on Microsoft's site.

Dodgy ? hardly at all.

Good evening

Found this link on Microsoft site under the following query "Windows 7 PROBLEM with USB 3.0" have also trien the same query with metacrawler.com and ended up with a lot of material, will read tomorrow.  See for yourself http://www.metacrawler.com/search/web?fcoid=417&fcop=topnav&fpid=27&q=%22Windows+7+PROBLEM+with+USB+3.0%22&ql=

There is a serie of 5 files on the subject from the same author, very good knowledge of tech.

I am leaving for Amsterdam Wednesday so I will be out of reach for a month or so.
