Hello guys.
I have the mobo Gigabyte GA EX58-UD5, with 3 GB DDR3 Corsair. When i restart the PC, it's shows 1066 MHz. In BIOS, too.
Everest shows 1333 MHz.
After i installed Easy Tune, now it's shows in BIOS 1066 MHz, and to the right side, 1120 MHz.
When i restart the PC, now is 1120 MHz, instead 1066 MHz.
I did another WEI in Windows 7, first i got the note 7.4 and now after the frequency increased ( ?? ) i have 7.6
That's not bad, some people said to me. But i don't remember to OC the Ram Memory. Anyway, the question is :
How could i modify in BIOS, the frequency to 1333 MHz ?? I can't acces the option, there. When i navigate there with the keyboard arrows, it skips that option.
Someone recommended me to change from 1066 to 1333 Mhz, and he said " 1120 is no default frequency "
What would you suggest, guys ?? Please give me some advices.
Thanks a million, in advance.

That's the model i have.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Would you mind updating your profile which can be found at the top with your location please. It can make it easier to answer if we know where the poster is.
As you have been told the 1120 is not a recognised frequency in the JEDEC set. I would try and run at 1333 if you can. From your post you are using WEI and Everest as benchmarks/ reporting software. These are not always that reliable especially the WEI.
Can you list you exact hardware especially the memory so we can get a better idea of the problem?
-
Thanks. That's the point i asked here : how tu run at 1333 MHz ? I mean, how can i change it to 1333 MHz ?
In BIOS i don't know exactly what to do, or how to change that.
-
Can you list you exact hardware especially the memory so we can get a better idea of the problem?
If you answer my question I might be able to help more.

PS : i said already the memory model,in the first post, here.
BIOS version is F9e
It helps if i get the latest BIOS version ??
-
Right now we know where we are it is better. I have checked the Corsair website and your memory is on the QVL for this board so that is a good start. Next you need to go into the BIOS when you are booting and go to the MIT page. Scroll down until you come to Dram Timing Selectable or Advanced Dram Features and change them from the default "auto". You can then select your settings but be carefull.
-
What do you mean with " but be carefull " ;D
Something wrong or bad can happent ??
LE : i went in BIOS. Dram Timing Selectable is AUTO (QUICK and EXPERT are the further options )
In Advanced Dram Features are a lot of options, there. I don't exactly know how to fix that.
-
Of course! Anytime you play around with BIOS settings something can go wrong. It is a very powerfull tool. For example if you set the Voltages too high you can have a nice meltdown. :o As with anything like this you have to understand what you are doing.
-
I understand. So i have to be very very carefull.
Please help me to fix that.
Is there maybe any tool / program ,like Easy Tunes, to help me doing this ?
Here is a printscreen from Everest. Maybe you can have a look, if you think you can help me.

No there is no ready made tool but it is not that difficult. I just wanted to warn you that you can't go playing around with BIOS settings.
First just make sure that you have the modules installed in the correct slots - 1,3 & 5. Next go into the BIOS and select the MIT page. Then scroll down to Advanced Frequency Options and select Advanced CPU Core Features under it. You then need to look for the two feature sets below and adjust them to your memory settings.
System Memory Multiplier (SPD)
Allows you to set the system memory multiplier. Auto sets memory multiplier according to memory SPD data. (Default: Auto)
Memory Frequency(Mhz)
The first memory frequency value is the normal operating frequency of the memory being used; the second is the memory frequency that is automatically adjusted according to the BCLK Frequency(Mhz) and System Memory Multiplier settings.
If you need to read up on it on page 42 of the manual it is all listed: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-x58a-ud5_v2.0_e.pdf
-
Ok,Dark Mantis.Thanks a lot.
I went through BIOS, again. I didn't modified nothing, just wrote on the paper, to explain to you.
So, first step : in M.I.T and then System Memory Multiplier ( SPD ) it's set to AUTO.
I can change to : 6.0 / 8.0 / 10.0 / 12.0 and so on. I tried to 6.0 first. Frequency was lower.About 800 Mhz, i'm not sure. So i tried to 8.0 and 10.0
If i set to 10.0 , is NOT 1333 Mhz. It's 1400 Mhz. Is that danger ? Like i said, i didn't modified nothing.
Next step : i scrolled down to M.I.T. to Advanced DRAM Features - pressed ENTER - and System Memory Multiplier ( SPD )
There are exactly the same options. 6.0 / 8.0 / 10.0 / 12.0
Now is set to AUTO, but i'm affraid to put it on 1400 MHz, that's higher than 1333 Mhz.
;D
What am i doing wrong there ? I followed exactly like you said, but i can't set exactly to 1333 Mhz.
Thanks again.
-
Actually not the best way to do it, sorry. Go into the BIOS and select the MIT page. Then scroll down to Advanced Memory Options and select
DRAM Timing Selectable change the setting from "auto" and then this will enable you to set your memory timings to what is printed on the side of the modules which if memory serves me rightly is 7-7-7-20 @1066
-
I can't set it to 1333 MHz.
So i leave it like it is now. Is that "bad" if it shows 1120 MHz at startup ?!
-
I don't understand why it is showing 1120 at startup but no it won't hurt. You should be able to set it to 1066 or 1333 though.
-
You think it's a good idea to update my BIOS ?
Read my first post, please. I explained there what happened with " 1120 MHz "
As i said, i can't set it exactly to 1333 Mhz.
1400 MHz or lower than 1333 MHz.
Damn.
-
If you have been playing around with EasyTune 6 then this is probably where the discrepancy has crept in. You could reset it back to the default setting.
Please don't take this the wrong way but do you understand what is meant by a BIOS update?
-
Yes, i do understand what is the BIOS UPDATE.
I updated the BIOS about 1 year ago.
-
So what BIOS version are you running now? Have you checked to see if there is an update for your board?
-
I reset it back to default settings, the BIOS.
Now, at startup, it shows 1066 MHz.
My BIOS version ( i said that again ) is F9e
Here are the latest BIOS versions for my mobo.
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2958&dl=1#bios
So .... you think is gonna help ? Or, you recommend it to leave it everything like it is now ?
-
The BIOS you are running at the moment is a Beta vesion not even the fully tested one. No doubt it is fine but even so there have been several updates since then and two of them have added memory compatibilty, so I think you should update to F12.
-
I tried to update the BIOS, but "NO DRIVE FOUND "
The BIOS i downloaded and unzipped, is on my USB memory stick. I tried to change in BIOS, from "first boot device " i HDD / CD / USB FDD, USB HDD, all of them, but i still receive the message " NO DRIVE FOUND "
The USB stick is in FAT 32 format.
Do i have to change maybe, IDE - SATA, in BIOS ?
-
You need to go into the BIOS and make sure that the "Legacy USB Storage" is enabled. Then make sure that the files arer unzipped onto the USB drive and inserted before booting. The USB pen will probably show up like a hard drive so don't be put off by that.
-
Yes, i think that Legacy USB Storage is Disabled.
I try again, now. Thanks.
LE : it was enabled.
Any ideas ?
-
Sorry didn't understand the LE? But i take it that it was already done. Check your pen drive and see how many files show up. There should be three in total. It might help you to read our FAQ page on the different ways to do it. See here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.0.html
-
Yes, there are 3 files.
Look here,please : http://img205.imageshack.us/i/usbfiles.jpg/
After i closed USB ( the USB stick is still in the USB slot, i didn't remove it yet ) there is only 2 files.
Autoexec is missing.
Very strange. I tried that 3-4 times. Same story.
And now i tried again to put those 3 files on my harddrive, somewhere...
After i close the partition where the files are, and reopen it, the same file is "missing"
Is very strange, actually, cause the file is there :) I wanted to copy only the missing files there, and than the message " copy / copy and replace / keep original " .. you know what i mean.
But i can't see the file in there.
-
Don't worry Autoexec.bat is as sytem file and as such wont show up normally. It is still on there.
-
Ok, but why can't i acces my USB stick, then ?
Should i try from the HDD ? The second HDD in my PC in nearly empty.I could cut everything from hdd 2 to hdd 1.
What do you think ?
-
Although it is possible to recover a BIOS image file from the hard drive it is not an accepted way of doing an update. I will try and have a word with my colleague absic about this first as this is the third time we have had this happen recently and I would like his opinion on it first. So bare with me and I will post again afterwards.
-
Ok, thanks a lot.
-
Dark Mantis , i have some good news ;D
I went again in BIOS. Remember ? I reset everything to default, about 2 hours ago, and on startup wasn't 1120 MHz. It was 1066 MHz.
Remember when i said :I can change to : 6.0 / 8.0 / 10.0 / 12.0 and so on. I tried to 6.0 first. Frequency was lower.About 800 Mhz, i'm not sure. So i tried to 8.0 and 10.0
If i set to 10.0 , is NOT 1333 Mhz. It's 1400 Mhz.
So, Dark, now i put again to 10.0 and it shows 1333 MHz.
Should i leave it like that ?
-
To be honest if your computer is running ok I really wouldn't worry. So your memory isn't running at an exact number of Mhz as long as it isn't causing any problems why mess. In the long run I think it would be a good idea to do a BIOS update to F12 as we said but it doesn't have to be now. I have just been chatting with absic and we came up with a couple of questions anyway. One is do you have the USB pendrive inserted straight inot a motherboard port not via a hub of some description. Second is what size is your USB stick?
-
Yes, i inserted the USB striaght into the motherboard port. But i'll try 3-4 more USB ports.
The size of the stick is 8 GB. When i updated last time my BIOS,it was another 8 GB USB stick.
So, for now, you think i can leave it 1333 MHz ?
-
Yes no problem.
-
Changed back to 1066 MHz. About 10 minutes ago i got BSoD.
I never got before BSoD on this PC.
-
So what speed are you running at now. The BSOD can happen on any machine and is not in itself a big deal.
-
As i said, now is back to 1066 MHz.
I'm not sure 100 % because of the BSoD, but 99,99 % is from the 1333 MHz.
;D
Here is a printscreen, with CPU-Z, memory tab.
http://img825.imageshack.us/i/cpuzv.jpg/
PS : when i modified to 1333 MHz, i didn't change any latence or voltage frequency.
Should i ?
-
I opened the PC case, and i checked the RAM, to see what is writen on it
So, i have this :
Corsair TR 3X3G 1333 C9
1.50 V ver8.1
9-9-9-24
1333 MHz
Now, my question : can i set to 1333 MHz, right ? If "YES" do i have to change the voltage and latence from the BIOS ?
Again, if "YES" , please explain me how.
Thanks in advance.
-
Enter the BIOS/MIT/DRAM Timing Selectable/change from Auto to Manual. Then you can have access to the settings manually. Enter your memory timings as you posted earlier off the side of the module. Save and exit(F10). ;)
-
I did that about 7-8 days ago and i got BSoD.
What about the voltage,in BIOS ??
Do i have to change them, too ?
-
The latency I wouldn't advise you to touch but the voltage should be set to what was on the side of the module (1.5v)It is possible to increase this figure a little but it shouldn't really be necessary if you are not overclocking or running large amounts of ram.
-
It is already 1.5V in BIOS.
If i increase now from 1066 MHz to 1333 MHz, i think it's gonna happent ( BSoD ) like last time.
You think it's okay if i increase JUST A BIT ,the voltage ? ;D
-
Yes, it would be safe to tweak it just a little. Small amounts only. Bit of trial and error.
-
So, from 1.5V to .... 1.7V ? :o
Or more ?!
-
So, from 1.5V to .... 1.7V ? :o
Or more ?!
Just whack it up to 1.65V check the timings are 9-9-9-24 (you might have to set the Command Rate (CR) to 2T) and don't overclock the CPU.
-
So, from 1.5V to .... 1.7V ? :o
Or more ?!
I said small amounts :o Not great jumps. 1.65v is the top as Peter has posted.

I'm really confused now.
After i installed Speccy, a very small program, i checked the ram.
Have a look here, please :

http://img21.imageshack.us/f/rampicture2.jpg/
I don't understand anymore. What is now the real ( default ) frequency ? 1066 MHz what BIOS shows, or 667 MHz ?

Theirs the confusion don't use it.
The default is 1066MHz your RAM can do 1333MHz.
1066MHz (Data rate MT/s) is 533MHz~ (I/O bus clock )
1333MHz (Data rate MT/s) is 667MHz~ (I/O bus clock )

Those images show you are running at 1078Mhz, is that what you intended? You can easily see actual Ram frequency with CPU-z, in the "Memory" tab, what you see you will need to multiply x 2 and that will be the current memory speeds.
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
It's very similar to what you used above, just in a smaller package and a bit easier for you to tell what it what. Be sure when you look you are looking at the Memory tab, the SPD tab shows programmed settings and speeds not actual speed in use.
-
I'm sorry, i was very busy in the last days.
The attached image ( link ) is the printscreen with CPU-Z
http://img684.imageshack.us/i/cpuzyr.jpg/
The FSB:DRAM is 2:8
Isn't that a bit "strange" ?
-
1078Mhz, looks normal to me!
The 2:8 is just due to the memory divider you are using, nothing you can do to change that except use a different FSB and memory divider.
All normal if you want your ram running at 1066mhz
