Imma just copypasta what I sent to Gigabyte tech
I have been battling with this problems for close to half a year now. The general problem is that textures in certain 3D games flicker (either with a black texture, or no texture at all.) It doesn't happen all the time, even in the games that do have problems. The obvious solution for me was to RMA the video card, but this did not solve anything. Here is a little youtube video I created to show the problem (only happens during the first 5 seconds or so)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfi3tYuV1TE
And here is a list on what I tried to fix it:
- Used a 700W power supply I know that worked without problems
- RMAed the Radeon 5870 TWICE
- RMAed the processor straight back to AMD
- RMAed this exact motherboard via Newegg
- Tried a Radeon 4850 and a GeForce 7950GT (The 4850 showed similar symptoms, while the 7950GT had the entire screen blinking and freezing)
- Switched memory brands from A-Data to Corsair
- Downclocked the Corsair memory to DDR3-1333, with looser timings
- Played with only one memory stick at a time (trying all 4 of them 1 by 1)
- Ran every system stability test I can think of....including, but not limited to: OCCT, Furmark, Heaven Benchmark, Linpack, Memtest86+
- Disabled AMD Turbo Core
- Increased all voltages slightly
- Disabled Cool and Quiet and C1E
In other words, I'm all out of ideas. I've read that there is a revision 2.1 of this exact same motherboard.....does that have the fix I am seeking? Other than that, I seek you help in hopefully finally be able to fix this small but very annoying problem.

Model Name : GA-890FXA-UD5(rev. 2.0)
--------------------------
M/B Rev : 2.0
BIOS Ver : F6
Serial No. :
Purchase Dealer : Newegg
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VGA Brand : XFX Model : Radeon 5870
CPU Brand : AMD Model : Phenom II X6 1090T Speed : 3600MHz
Operation System : Win 7 64-bit SP :
Memory Brand : Corsair Type : DDR3
Memory Size : 4x2GB Speed : 800MHz
Power Supply : 850 W
NOTE: I'm still not entirely sure about this, but the artifacts might be related to games that use only one core. I have several games that don't show artifacts no matter how long I play (such as Dragon Age Origins and Left 4 Dead 2).....which are multi-core capable

Hi
You seem to have covered most of the usual explanations of this type of problem already. Just to try and cover anything that's left have you tried a different monitor and lead?

Hi there,
have you tried pulling your RAM speed back from 1600MHz to 1333MHz?

I tried with a new DVI cable....same
Hi there,

I have tried many times even underclocking below 1333MHz.....it just doesn't make a difference
When I had the A-Data memory set, the artifacts were 2x worse, as well as the game would freeze at random intervals. Same thing with diagnosis, also....memtest86+ would report no errors.
This motherboard was never truly RMAed.....it was returned for a replacement by Newegg. The replacement was between 3 weeks of original purchase, so I guess it's possible I was dealing with a bad batch. I do recall that the replacement motherboard didn't fix a thing, and that it was the memory brand switch that got me to where I am now
If I can get an Advanced RMA somehow, I'll try with the motherboard again. I just can't risk having my production PC down for any amount of time

Hi
You could try emailing the OP to see what the outcome was.

Looks like you tried almost everything possible..
My only thoughts are :
One I noticed you are running 3600 ..Is that for a purpose? Did it help or hinder?
Two..Have you tried playing with the Resolution and or frame rate to see if it makes any difference?
Just some thoughts from here..
Hope you find it soon..

you are running with 4x2 gb of RAM
even though is proven you can run with the 4 sticks of RAM at 1600 MHz, you still need to add some voltage to the CPU-NB, have it at round 1.25v
