GA-X58A-UD3R rev 2.0 FE: secondary hard drive + DVD drive not seen by mobo

Hi,

I've come across a frustrating issue with my new GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard.

My secondary SATA hardrive and IDE DVD drive are not been seen in the BIOS (version FE).
My primary SSD show's up as the only hardrive and loads the OS no problem.

I'm using the BIOS defaults
I have all my SATA ports enabled.
AHCI is not enabled.

Its been suggested I need to enable AHCI but I thought that only effected a RAID configuration, which I'm not using.
I suspect there's a BIOS setting that needs to be changed but nothing is obvious to me.

Any input is appreciated.
J.

Suggestions:
1.  Connect all devices only to the ICH10 SATA controller(right hand side 6 sockets)
2.  Update ICH10 to latest Intel driver (.exe on Intel site) - easy to use
3.  Check cables (obvious I know)
4.  Disable GSATA and Marvel controllers (fortesting) via BIOS
5.  Try increasing HDD delay in BIOS (suggest reading other topics on this)

I find ICH10 works well but the GSATA/Marvell is not so stable or as fast

Hi

You might find that it is to do with having both IDE and SATA both installled on the same board. If possible try to get a SATA optical drive to check. They bare very inexpensive now anyway.

The SSD should run in IDE modeor AHCI, with the latter giving a bit better performance but it will not make much difference. It ios possible thjat the firmware on your drive needs updating.

I don't know what BIOS version you are running on your motherboard but  maybe an update there would help.

Thanks for the help.

I got another SATA HDD and installed that...works fine alongside the SDD in IDE and AHCI. I'm guessing that for some strange reason my HDD and DVD drive decided to die at the same time...?

Thanks again

Well we have all been caught out at one time or another. It always seems to be the one time when you haven't backed up properly.
