My new build system includes a GA- MA-785UD2H MB with AMD Athlon ii X2 250 CPU and Seagate Barracuda 7002.12 SATA Hard Drive.
start up is not a broblem and the HDD is recognsied. Windows 7 initialy boots from the DVD Drive and allows me to set  language etc. and accept agreement but then it requests drivers and will go no further. the strange thing is that the OS seems to recognise the HDD.
Basically I'm stuck.

I think what you're saying is that the BIOS sees the HDD but the installation of Win7 doesn't? Is the HDD formatted in any different filesystem (a linux one for example?) You could try downloading the seagate HDD diagnostics, see if it picks up any errors, if not - try formatting it with the seagate diagnostics.

Updating BIOS and trying different SATA ports in the board is always worth a shot, but I don't think its going to really help you in this case.

Are you installing from Original Microsoft Disc?

If you are trying to install from a copied or download version, then this could be the problem. I had the same issue and so have a few others. Check out these posts:

Could be the same thing here.
