Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty PCIe x 1 in x16 not recognised (GA-X58A-UD7)

RatsAss

My board has 2 x16 and 2 x8 lanes

I have my X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty  card in the 2nd x8 slot and it works fine.

2 x16 lanes are occupied.

It cuts the 2nd x16 lane to x8 but no big deal.

Thanks for your post Ripjaws!

I have a quick question:

Can you tell me which drivers and OS you are using.  I have the Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series [I actually have 3 of them, one with the front panel] but when I read all the posts about people being angry about the driver problem, I was afraid to open the boxes.

Can you let me know how you got it to work?

Also, are you using the front panel too?

Thanks,

Soar

PS I was actually thinking of picking up another version this weekend [Fry's has them on sale in-store for $60 and online for $109 instead of $199] for resale purposes.  I will drive to Fry's tomorrow.

The exact version is found here: http://www.frys.com/product/5665331

Can you help me understand how to make this work on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit?

Thanks,

Soar

I have the Titanium Fatal1ty champion card aswell.I like the front panel.

I'm using Win 7 x 64 Ultimate.

I downloaded the latest drivers from Creative. 2_17_0008  That installed an Auto Updater. Then I chose which drivers and programs I wanted to install.

You must install the front panel identification module. This is needed for hardware detection.

I also installed the DTS connect pack,Dolby digital live pack,Alchemy, and the console launcher.

Thats all I did to get it to work.

I read the posts at Creative forums.Lots of unhappy campers over the drivers.

But they seem to work fine for me.

I have my speakers connected thru the optical output.

I dont know what else I can add.Let me know if there is anything more you need to know.

RipJaw,

Thanks for taking the time to respond and help me realize it is possible to make it work and make it work well!  I will give it a try and see what happens.  If I run into too many problems I can always sell them.

Ok, one more question, do you see a very large difference between Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty and your onboard sound card?

Both my rigs are running a Gigabyte mobo with onboard sound [please see my signature].  The sound quality now seems ok to me [I am not an audiophile].

Will I notice much of a difference?  Why did you shift to an add on sound card?

Thanks,

Soar

.
I have never liked the onboard sounds volume level for headphones. it always seemed lacking.
I use my headset quite often when silence is needed. kids sleeping,,,etc
The level on this card is very powerful.

I read somewhere that seperate sound cards are better for gaming. I sim race online so I thought this would help.

Plus I got it on sale. ;D

I could'nt explain any tech diffences. The onboard sound is good.

I just wanted a good,powerful sound card.

In the price range, this card won.

Thanks Rip!

Ok, I am getting excited about trying this new toy.  Many, many posts spoke about the massive difference [in a very good way] in the game settings of this Creative sound card.  I read somewhere it makes it totally easy to hear when someone is sneaking up on you!  A number of the posts said with the Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty game mode enabled, they could hear stuff that a normal onboard sound card could not pick up.  That's amazing to me.

I no longer play many games but I still like good crisp sound in every way possible so I look forward to slapping this baby in my newest 2500k build and see how it works.  I really like the front panel too.  It makes the computer system look even better.

I picked up that last one at Fry's for $59.99.  This is quite a deal considering they normally sell for $199.99 here.  I will open this newest version to see if there is any difference than the one I purchased some months ago.

Thanks again for helping me understand that these units can work well in Windows 7 64-bit.

Now I must find some time so I can install it and give it a go.

Another question if you do not mind: Did you uninstall all old sound drivers before installing the new Creative drivers?

Here is the install directions I found from a gentleman in whose system this Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty worked well:

Install Log: Made sure onboard sound in bios was disabled

1) Uninstalled audio drivers, which included using device manager for uninstall of motherboard sound drivers then shut down.

2)Connected cables to pci-e card then put card in slot.

3) Connected cables to external I/O drive BEFORE slipping drive into case.

4) Start Win 7 and shut off Anti Virus and all other progs.

5) started Creative Install disk then rebooted at completion.

6) Ran Creative autoupdate and basically repeated entire install process, restarted.
7) Ran windows update and voila new update for creative gets installed, restarted

8) Ran creative autoupdate again and once more 2 more updates were installed bringing me to final driver version of 2.17.7. BTW it took this last update to get the lights on I/O drive to come on. LAST THOUGHT...after every update and restart, make sure you shut down all running programs every time, this will minimize potential conflicts. Good Luck and enjoy the awesome sound!

Is this similar to the process you used to install yours?

Have a good one!

On the 2 systems I installed this card on,both were fresh installs. No old drivers to get rid of.

I did not delete any onboard drivers.
I did disable the onboard sound in bios.

I did connect the cables to the hardware first, then put in place.

I dont think I shut of my antivirus  (MSE) , I just closed any open windows.

On my last system I installed off the disc that it came with. Then Auto updater repeated the process.

Second sytem  (this one)  I downloaded and manually installed the driver and right away it installed the auto updater and went thru the process.

It is a bit of a lenghty process installing the drivers, but its worth it.

I hope you have some nice speakers to enjoy the sound. ;)

I have game mode turned on.

The EAX and CMSS-3D software are really good for hearing in all directions.

I can hear when cars are coming up behind me when racing.   see pic ;D

RipJaws,

Ok, thanks for the clarity on how you installed the new sound card to work well for you.  I will give it a shot later this week when I have a little more time.  I know it will look nice and I believe it will sound very nice too.

Thanks again for your help and I will give everyone here an update once it it up and running.

Have a wonderful day Ripjaws!
