networkproblems with GA-Z68P-DS3
« on: April 20, 2014, 04:36:01 pm »
Hello.
I wonder if you might can help me?
We have a home network and our ISPs bandwidth is 24 Mbits/sec (I know it is slow speed  :))
The speed in 2 other computers is 24 Mbit but its only 9 Mbit with the computer who have the Gigabyte motherboard and integrated Realtek network card.
I contact the ISP and they did not find any errors or problems with the modem/router.

I have tried to disable network in BIOS and enabled it again
I have reinstalll the realtek drivers from Gigabyte´s website and download the latest
I have  create a new networkconnection.

All this without any positiv results.
Does anyone know what´s wrong with our computer?

regards
KjelleL

I'm afraid you've given us very little to go on.

Can you describe your network?

What are you using to test your bandwidth?

Using one of the "faster PC's" as a reference, are the software environments the same?  OS. Software, web browsers?  Are the hardware specs similar?  Hardware problem is unlikely, but we don't know what you are comparing.

Please ping the gateway from one of the systems that gets better downstream bandwidth, results?
Do the dame for the "z68 problem" system, results?

Perform a tracert to a domain of your choice.
Perform the same test on the problem machine, compare results?

Verify cabling and connections.  This is most likely software related, but you'll have to fill in some of the missing information.

One thing I'll add to what shadowsports is saying about software. Is boot the Z68p up in save mode with networking.

Download Malwarebytes and run that on that computer, malware can do a number on a computer and slow it down.

Hello you both.
A big thanks for your replies.

With your help I realized that the error was in the network card the integrated on the motherboard.

I came to this conclusion by doing this.

First of all I realized that the SSD disc was way too small with the 60GB so i bought a bigger SATA disc.
I did create a discimage(?) and reinstall the content in the new disc.
Suddenly the network card doesn´t work in proper speed.

First I thought it was  something I did with the discimage and the reinstallation.
I put back the older disc but noticed that it was same low speed.

I deleted the driver from the window and disabled the onboard card in BIOS. I start all up again but it was in the same low speed.

Then did you both helped me out and then gave me an advice that I should run the network and windows in failsafe mode to see if the problem was there.
It wasn´t. I then bought a new card and installed that and now it works in the right speed.  ;D

It is amazing that a broken network card can run in half speed. In my opinion it should havent be able to run at all.

Thank you both for your help and advice that you gave me.
Have a great day :)

We are happy to help.  Before you completely dismiss the integrated NIC, I'd experiment with different drivers versions.
