GA-Z97N-WIFI - Replacing WIFI module for SSD

GA-Z97N-WIFI - Replacing WIFI module for SSD
« on: October 29, 2014, 05:22:53 pm »
Is it possible to remove the m-pcie wifi module on the GA-Z97N-WIFI motherboard and replace it with a SSD?

If so, what types of SSD are compatible? (mSATA, m.2 etc)

Ideally I'm looking to use this as a boot drive for a multimedia server.

Thanks in advance!

Is a mini pcie slot and they don't make a SSD to fit that slot.

You can try might have to change boot order in bios and it might not have a boot from that slot. Whatever you do let us know so others will know.

I know this is an old post, but I came here looking for the same question and hope to help others with it.

The answer is no. Although the connectors are both technically cald PCIe and have the same length, they don't provide the same features. Type A and E connectors are used for wifi and cellular cards, type B for SATA and PCIeX2 SSDs and type M for PCIeX4 SSDs. There are notches in the connectors to prevent cards being put in the wrong connector.
