Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3-ISSD + Nvidia Geforce GTX 980

My friend has a Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3-ISSD motherboard, where he has plugged two Nvidia Geforce GTX590 (3072 mb ram). He would like to upgrade to Nvidia GeForce GTX 980. Since I'm not very expert with motherboards and video chipsets, may I ask you if Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3-ISSD + Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 are compatible?
And eventually, if is it possible to have two Geforce GTX 980 working togheter?

Yes its possible, check the PSU Watts before, he ll need something around 700~750W in sli
