Intel 750 - 400gb on a GB z170x gaming 7 driving me crazy.
« on: October 21, 2015, 09:05:54 pm »
Monday I purchased the Intel 750 (400gb) nvme ssd for my GB z170x gaming 7 mb.

I did a clean install of W8.1pro with an Rufus uefi usb stick and initially every went okay, until I switched off my pc.

After a cold boot I get a msg. Reboot and select a proper Boot device.

Checked all settings in the bios, and Windows bootmanager is listed as the First boot option.

storage boot option and other pci device Rom have been set at UEFI.

Have already installed a different Bios but still the problem.

So a reset goes perfectly but a cold but gives the problem.

Any tips before I return this  750 to the shop?

Intel Toolbox and latest Nvme drivers installed.

Tks.

Does it show the SSD in the bios? If it does see if you can boot from it. The other thing is do you have other HHD's in the computer?

I have 3 wd for storage, but evne if i disconnect them the problem exists.

It seem that during cold boot the 750 nvme pci-e ssd is not recognised.

Not sure if this is a  Motherboard issue or the 750.

What you can do to test it is use one of the HHD's and install windows just to test. Then see if you still have the boot problem. I don't know if this has any thing do with it and really shouldn't.

But I learn that when you install OS on any drive that it should be the only one connected. Then connect the others after you have any thing up and running.

For the 750 i did a clean install without any other Hd's connected.

When I connect my old WD with windows 10 it boots okay warm and cold.

The only problem I have is that the 750 does not boot from a cold start up, so
at this stage useless as a bootdrive.

I have been looking in the book to see if there is a option to boot from the type of drive. Yes you said you have it boot from the windows boot manager. But is it the first one in the list under Hard Drive/CD/DVD ROM Drive/Floppy Drive/Network Device BBS Priorities.
