GA-790FXTA-UD5 BSODs
« on: May 17, 2010, 05:00:52 pm »
Hello you all!
Here is my system specs:

GA-790FXTA-UD5 - F3F BIOS
AMD PHENOM II 965BE - C3 REVISION
4GB G.SKILL RIPJAWS 1333MHz - 7-7-7-21 - F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH
SEAGATE 1TB - ST31000528AS
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 5870 VAPOR X
LG LED W2486L
ZALMAN 850W
WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE X64

Here's how the blue screens of death happen:
I turn on my pc the first time and everything works perfectly. No matter whether of one, two or twenty hours. The computer does not show even an error. Even if I play some heavy games.
But if I turn it off completely, including the UPS, and restarting it a few hours later, it is certain that the computer starts with errors as APPCRASH, programs that stop responding, etc., which will culminate in a BSOD.
I've done using the sfc / scannow, I reinstalled Windows, including the 32bit version, divers upgraded, disable antivirus, driver verifier ...
The first package was sent memory G. SKILL RMA - one of the memories had problems. I bought another thinking I had solved my problems but ... So I now consider that the problem might be in the slots on the motherboard. So I started using the slots 3 and 4 in order to have some certainty about what I reported ... BSODs came following the same procedure described in "Here's how the blue screens of death happen."
It is noteworthy that nothing was overcloked.

I thank you for yo
ur help!
Any ideas?!

Hi Walloon

I had exactly the same problem my screen would start to flicker and eventually BSOD but usually ony after a couple of hours' use

My spec is GA-790FXTA-UD5
965BE Phenom II x4
Kingston Hyper X 1600mhz ddr3 (running at 1333)
896mb ASUS Geforce GTX275
2x 750GB Green WD Hdd's in raid 0
win 7 ultimate 64bit.

anyway I started by blaming the ram, but it passed all tests,
turns out its all down to drivers!

Update your audio drivers, then reinstall your vga drivers and see how it goes

I assume you are using the onboard realtek audio like me?

Hi bofh1971!

I tried what you suggested me, but even before I register on this forum. Regarding the onboard audio and vga drivers, I used driver sweeper, I installed them, reinstalled them, tried the standard Windows drivers but nothing solved the problem ... That is why I'm here ... I'm out of options!
I am very grateful for the help but as you might see ...

All I can think of is to try a different brand of Ram
I did replace my Kingston with some Corsair, partly to see if there was anything that would rock the boat, disproving the audio driver solution.
but it remains stable with corsair in, slightly quickon on 3dmark vantage even though the timings are the same (go figure :) )

just checking did you get the latest audio drivers from realtek? because the ones on the Gigabyte website and on the CD (v1.0) dont work for me.

you could try manually underclocking the ram , slow the timings down to see if that improves stability?

I know g-skill ram keeps being recommended by gamers etc, but look carefully at the supported Ram list on the product page for the mobo.
p.s. Corsair ram XMS3 stuff is the cheapest at the moment too :)

good luck
