TPM 2.0 module for X79-UD3 rev. 1

Hi GB forum,
I guess this question bothers quite a lot of us with the upcoming Win11:
Is my old or relatively old MB will be supported from Win11 when it comes to the missing TPM 2.0 module?

I have MB X79-UD3 rev. 1 and I wonder if there is a suitable TPM for this motherboard or is the upgrade of the system inevitable?

I understand your concern as I'm currently requesting if I'll need a BIOS update to enable my TPM chip.

Your motherboard according to the spec sheet here

Does contain a TPM header to plug a TPM module into. 

1 x Trusted Platform Module (TPM) header

Your TPM header is located right at the bottom of the motherboard under the PCI slots, It's the 20 pin socket with TPM under it.

So, you'll need the TPM module i have ordered myself here

However, Some motherboards may need a BIOS update to enable this TPM chip, I've asked on here and sent a Support ticket to Gigabyte, though I've heard no reply to date.

I've just looked at the sales page again and not only have they changed the image from a Blue chip to a black chick, but, there no option to pre-order or buy any longer.


So not sure if they've sold out or what, however, this is the type of Chip you'll need for your motherboard.

More likely you might have to upgrade your board. Microsoft is only going back to the 8th gem CPU's. But they are testing 7th gen CPU's. You CPU is like the 2nd gen in that series.

I'm a Microsoft Partner and I'm not going to use it at first. Yes I will test it on a computer. But it will not be a computer I use daily. They tried to control stuff with secure boot that didn't go very well either.

Now they are really trying to control everything you put on your computer.

No one knows for sure at this point.

MS has said they will require TPM 2.0 for W11.  Right now, vendors are hoarding what little TPM supply there is and trying to sell $20 chips for $100 or more.   My suggestion is wait and see where this goes.  Windows 10 isn't going anywhere.
