cant control fan speed /ga p55 udp4

cant control fan speed /ga p55 udp4
« on: August 30, 2010, 09:17:47 pm »
i mucked around with speedfan recently, as easytune was revving my fan up over nothing, and now i cant get my fan above 2300rpm (used to do 3600). My temps are hitting 68c overall and 78c on single cores.

I tried re-installing ET6 and speedfan, tried playing with bios options relating to pwm ETC. Still cant get my fan up to speed

Any ideas?

If a moderator could move this to the p55 sub section, that would be nice

Thanks

It's a core i7 860 on a ga p55 udp4, 8 gigs of ram.  Windows 7 ultimate 64bit

I've used it for a year now on the stock cooler. I havent changed my hardware config recently, so it's a software thing

My main concern is just getting my fan up to 3600 RPM again.

Are you overclocking anything?
Try removing ET6 and see if that gives you control back over your fan speeds.
What BIOS are you running?

Same bios i was running when i bought the mobo in october 2009. I've done all sorts of installing/uninstalling o easytune and of speedfan, but cant get my fan up to the RPMs i'd like. I reckon it's speedfan that did the damage, and i can't undo it right now

I am afraid that doesn't tell me anything of use at all.
You have also listed your motherboard wrongly as the type you say doesn't exist.

Sorry, and thanks for your patience. I'm typing this up at work

it's a P55M-UD4. Not sure of the BIOS version. Maybe if i found a decent speedfan tutorial i would be ok!

Thanks, that makes life a lot easier. ;)
I take it the Speed fan you are referring to is this one: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php if so are you running the latest version? There is also a new Beta version on the site.

I found several tutorials on the web that looked interesting try here for a start: http://thepcreport.net/tutorials/how-to-use-speedfan-to-monitor-your-computers-temperatures/

I went and bought a hyper 212 cooler. Really, really excellent purchase for 31 dollars

I had to drill a hole in the metal backplate it came with to get it to fit (a screw thread was popping out where it shouldnt have), and it's a really tight squeeze on my micro-ATX board, but my core temps on load are down from 85c to 55c.

Thanks for your time mantis

Your welcome and glad to be able to do my bit in getting your machine running better. A good qualkity after market cooler is one of the most important things that is often overlooked by people when building their machines. The stock coolers just aren't really up to it.
