GA-X58A-UD3R USB 3.0 ports crashing Win7 64 bit?
« on: September 12, 2010, 09:47:12 pm »
Greetings everyone -

I have a brand new GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 BIOS FA motherboard. I am noticing any time I plug in a non USB3 device into the USB 3 slots on the back, the machine will blue screen with a Stop 0x3B pointing at nusb3xhc.sys driver. If I plug it in and it works for a bit, one of my applications I run will do a scan of the USB bus, and again, crash with the same error. I have downloaded the 2.0.4.0 drivers from Gigabyte's website, and it still crashes.

The website says for the FB Bios it says "USB3.0 chip legacy support"

Will this solve the problem? I loathe doing BIOS updates if I don't have to. Is this the problem? This a known issue? I cannot find release notes for FB so validate.

Thanks!

Devon

Hi and welcome to the forum.
To be honest I haven't come across this problem before here so it can't be common. I am actually amazed that the BIOS update description is as helpfull as it it. From what it says I think it is right up your street so to speak. If you are unsure about doing the update make sure you read our FAQ section guide first. Don't be tempted to use @BIOS.

It just crossed my mind to ask what devices you have plugged into the USB3 ports because I use both of mine with no problems and like I said I haven't come across anyone else complaining of it.

A USB Syncrosoft dongle, and a few MIDI interfaces. They work fine on the 'normal' USB ports, just not on the USB 3.0 interface.

I don't doubt that but it might be worth swapping things around a bit and try some other devices in the USB3 ports and see if they are more stable. It's just it seems funny that you are the first person to have problems with these ports to my knowledge.

I've got 4 'things' to plug in, one of them being a 4 port USB hub which is also full. Any of those 4 devices work on the 'standard' USB ports, even on the front of my case that I plugged in a USB pigtail to attach from the motherboard to the front work perfectly fine (mainly a USB thumb drive). Any of those that plug into the USB 3.0 will either crash the system or at one point came up as an 'unknown device' the one time. Once my program started up though, it crashed during the part that I know it scans for the MIDI interfaces. This is a fresh install of Win7 64 on a brand new 1TB drive. I have hooked it up to the net and got all the latest updates from Microsoft. So, yes, I have tried other devices in the ports. Each device is different from each other too, no duplicates.

I posted a reply for you on TT about this, I think you need to update the BIOS so you are not using the initial BIOS release, also linked latest firmware.

Sorry to not post my reply to you here, but I had already replied to you at TT before I saw your post here.
