[GA-P55A-UD5] [rev 1.0] freezing, crashes, reboot while gaming
« on: September 27, 2010, 01:54:39 am »
hello,
i just build this new system, everything was running fine until i start playing games.
first game that causes problems was cod4, i had almost instant freezing and was impossible to play more than 30seconds online.
i checked event logs and saw problems with realtek lan drivers.
so i install latest ones from gigabyte website.

its running better now, well at least last time i played it.
i could play for like 30min, then it froze and rebooted.

then starcraft 2,
i get flickering menu, then in the lobby, right when the counter start, it freeze, black screen, then sometimes flashes untill map load.
at this point, it reboot and sometimes the game just continue to load the map and i can play.
but then i can get various lags, freezing, i even got a message ingame where it told me something about out of memory pool or something.

so here are my specs (everything is new, just build the system 2 days ago):

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I would recommend that you try playing the game off line and see if the problem still surfaces. It sounds more like a memory error or something.
Also just check that the temperatures are OK.and the fans are running on the heatsink.

thanx dark mantis,

i played offline and same thing, the game freeze to death after like 2minutes.
this is what i did so far:
updating chipset drivers
ccleaned register
different nvidia drivers
updating realtek drivers -> enabled 'stereo mix' (i read somewhere it could help)

nothing fixed the problem

what can i do now ?
the ram is exactly the one stated in the gigabyte list for the mobo
could it be the problem ?
or the graphic card ?
im lost

It could be that the game itself is the problem with your setup. It may need patching. Check on the website and see if anyone else is finding the same trouble.
The other thing to look at is the temperatures. It could be an overheating problem.

Run this on maximun
IntelBurnTest
http://www.ultimate-filez.com/files/IntelBurnTest.zip
Then run this in stability with your screen size set for a bit.
FurMark v1.8.2
http://ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

You do have Virtual memory set on the HDD and not on the SDD and not have just turned it all off?

its not overheating, i used msi afterburner to check and ingame gpu temp goes up to 72° max.
the cpu stay at stable 30°, the noctua is a beast

i also ran a furmark stability test for like 2min, seems ok to me, but i will try again.

and aslo memory test got no errors

here is my Virtual memory settings:

It all looks alright there. I think you need to run Furmark for a bit longer than you did but I am not expecting any great problem. Have you checked the game's website like I suggested?

You really should change that or you will burn through your SSD have it set on your HDD.

He's just suggesting that you move your swapfile from your C drive (SSD) to your D drive (magnetic drive)

As a matter of interest what sort of SSD are you running?

Ah! I did wonder from your post. It should work fine the only thing is it will be sharing bandwdth with your graphics card and anything else you have on the PCIE bus.

what should i change exactly ?
Uncheck “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives” and set C: to “No paging file” and set your E: to “system managed size” click OK and reboot.

and run furmark a bit longer

The newest realtek NIC drivers from realtek site might be better.

ok i did the virtual memory thing,
ran furmark stability test for 7.30min, no errors, nothing.
temps goes up to 85° but seems normal.

also installed those realtek NIC drivers, still crash in both games

You mean 7 min 30 sec yes? 30-60 min would test it a bit more fully.

Your HDD  in a blue SATA port?

Is your OCZ Revo in the bottom x16 slot ? If not try it in that one.

Are you running at stock speeds including running your RAM at 1333MHz just for testing.

Better RAM testing just to be sure its not the RAM.

Any other games you can test? Even try Beta drivers
