Plugged in 16x card and 1x Tuner stopped working?
« on: November 21, 2010, 09:40:14 am »
Ok I added in a new video card to my computer that is a PCIe 16x card.(Gigabyte GTX 460 Super Overclock Series). Oddly whenever I plugged this card in my PCIe tuner card in the 1x slot above it immediately stopped working.(The computer no longer recognizes that it is there at all) Does anybody know what could have caused this?

Hardware:
Gigabyte P55A-UD3 Rev. 2 Firmware: F11
Core i5 760
Corsair 650W Modular PSU
WD Caviar Black 1TB(FAEX) - AHCI
Vertex 2 120GB SSD - AHCI
G.Skill 4GB RAM
Gigabyte GTX 460 Super Overclock Series

Hi
It doesn't really make a lot of sense as they are actually on two different PCIE busses even. You can see the connection layout on page 8 of the manual.

http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-p55a-ud3_v2.0_e.pdf

I would suggest moving the tuner card to the PCIE x4 slot.

I put it in the x4 slot and it installed drivers the the PCIe bus in Windows, but still no card.  ???

Purely guessing here but some hardware requires the software/divers to be installed before the hardware is inserted. Have you tried that approach?
If not make sure you clean off the old remnants of the software from the system first.

The tuner card was already installed on the system. I recently put an SSD drive in, but I still had my old OS installed on my HDD. The tuner card was working on this installation, so I booted that up and it still wasn't recognized. I guess I just killed the card somehow whenever I put my graphics card in. I have never had anything like this happen before, but there doesn't seem to be any other explanation.

Which drive has the OS on it now?

Have you tried clearing the CMOS and loading Optimised BIOS Defaults?

I don't think you have killed your card just messed up the settings/drivers.

No I haven't but I will give that a try. Both drives have the OS on them. The old HDD just has a setup that I knew was working when I quit using it.

You can't have two drives that are active and have the OS on them on the same system without problems. I would suggest unplugging the old drive and just using the new drive for now.

Ok I tried swapping the card out with a new card and still it does not recognize it...I go into device manager and scan for new hardware and it comes up with nothing.

Have you just got one drive installed now?

If so what OS is installed on it?

Yes I just have the 1 drive. It has Windows 7 64-bit. Like I say though the card was working just fine until I replaced my GTS 250 with my GTX 460 then bam no tuner card. Also I tried clearing the CMOS and that didn't help either.

So everything is working alright apart from the TV tuner card now?

Try in the BIOS disabling the USB3 and unless you are using it the SATA3 controller too. Along with any other devices that you are not using like the floppy drive.

Unfortunately I don't have one handy. The only other computers I have are laptops.
