Right that might explain a lot. The file you downloaded is what is called a zip file. The file is compressed to make it smaller to transfer over the internet. If you right click on it and then select open a dialogue box will appear and you can select where to unzip the file. I would suggest your floppy drive or USB pen drive whatever you want to use.

I have just had a thought here. What size is the update package as a lot of them are 2 MB nowadays and so won't fit on a floppy disk.

as far as i know its working properly and not write protected, otherwise i wouldn't of been able to put stuff on it. say if i take out the whole drive, do you think it will detect a usb then? also, would it matter what location i downloaded from? i have been using the Europe one

By all means use the USB drive instaed and see if you cna get further  with that. Just remember to disable the floppy drive and change the boot sequence etc in the BIOS before attempting it again.

You might be better off first having a look at our FAQ on how to do the bIOS update so you are more familiar with the procedure.

http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.0.html

There is one written by me there and also one written by absic and some people prefer one over the other so please read them both.

Maybe. Have you formatted the USB drive with FAT32 because it wont accept it if it is done with NTFS?

I am rapidly running out of ideas here. Just in case it is a BIOS corruption problem we will try and force the Backup BIOS to take over.

You can kick in the backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.

Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.
