Hi Soar. Its looking good mate.. A few big blue fans in the top and it will blow you away..I uploaded pics Soar...Cheers Dave

Thanks Jannie!

For now, I left the 230 mm non led CoolerMaster fan in the top because it is working well and Coolermaster does not appear to make the 230mm fans anymore...and I could not find any 230 mm fan with LED's anywhere even though I looked many places online.

Dave, where did you upload your pics?  I look forward to seeing your rig.

I know it is nice!

So I finally installed the Hyper Cooler 212+, I'm not sure what I did wrong, But my temps seems to just a couple of degrees cooler. I didn't do any lapping to the surface.

I'll have to play around and take a look what else I can do.

If you are using a good TIM like Arctic Silver 5 then it does take a few days to see the optimum thermal transfer rate but even so I would have expected you to be seeing  a good drop straight away. I would suspect that something is amiss.

I did indeed use artic silver 5. And I suppose it's taking effect now a bit. I overclocked to 4.2 Ghz right now and temps are hovering around 32-35C.

Still no where near the mid 20s when I first got the build and had the same OC.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'll wait and see how this thing goes.

Dave,

Absolutely amazing build you did there!  Really, really nice!  You can be proud of yourself for doing such a nice job!

I really like those Spectre 230mm fans.  Where can I find those?  I looked everywhere for some LED 230mm fans and could not find them anywhere!

Uh oh, here I walk into an Intel thread ;). Soar, these 230mm fans from CM are kind of a lie. They're really the same as their 200mm fans just with a bigger frame. With that in mind, I think the 200mm led fans fit just fine.

I have a few questions to you.

1. What do you think of that Scythe controler as I've been thinking about it for a while now? Seems like a nice one but it's a bit pricey here.
2. How does that 140mm fan fit in the front? Me, being the fan addict, I'm thinking about fitting one there, too.

BTW,

Thanks for helping me understand about the CM "230mm" fans!  Wow, I never realized they are actually 200mm's just like the Sniper fans.  I am really interested in finding at least one of the "true" and "Genuine' 230 fans so I can compare the difference.  I think they are sold exclusively in England...

I'll keep looking here I suppose and hopefully find one someday!

Who knows, maybe DM would like to trade a genuine 230 mm fan for a free copy of the newest and greatest Kaspersky Pure 3 user license?  DM, are you out here?  Hehehehehehe!

Ok, to answer your questions BTW...

I looked long and hard [three months to be exact] at just about every Fan Controller and Temperature Monitor on the market today...and here is what I discovered:

I really liked and wanted to purchase the AeroCool 2000, but the reviews were so absolutely terrible, I dared not buy it.  I like the advertised abilities, the looks, and the colors...but...

Like your LCD TV, you cannot properly view this controller or any LCD controller mounted in a PC from the top, bottom, left or right side just like a TV, you need to look straight at it for the best view...

So, I did not want to have to bend down to look at the display located on the computer sitting on the floor...

Also, huge problem with temp displays NOT working correctly and fan controllers NOT working correctly...

BTW, I am looking more than anything else for accuracy and reliability, rather than outward appearances....so this scratched the Aerocool off my list immediately because of all the documented cases of poor accuracy and poor reliability.

Next,

Zalman, Sunbeam, 1st PC Corp, and NZXT all had high percentages of poor reviews as well, and most of these units do not show a visual of the temps...so that disqualified these units also [I highly desire the ability to check important temps with just a glance of the eye...it gives me more peace that all is ok with my system].

After careful investigation and much reading, I discovered the Scythe KM02-BK 5.25" Bay Fan Controller had the reliability and accuracy that I was looking for even though I felt it lacked the beautiful aesthetics of the Aerocool models.

So far, I am 100% happy with it.  I have no complaints whatsoever about it.  It is not a LCD display...

This fan controller uses a VFD display (Vacuum Fluorescent Display). Not LCD. Not LED. They used a VFD display because it is viewable at EXTREME angles (if your case sits on the floor, you can read the display while sitting in your chair...if it were an LCD/LED display that would not be possible). Many complaints in reviews of LCD and LED controllers talk about viewing angles. That is totally eliminated with this controller.

Lastly, many, many positive reviews came from builders that used CM's HAF 932...the exact case I was using, so that kind of cinched it for me.

To be 100% honest with you, I feel I had to sacrifice some of the desired beauty for the more important aspects of reliability, functionality, and accuracy.  I had no other choice.

Now about that extra 140mm fan I installed...

New Egg had the XIGMATEK Cooling System Crystal Series CLF-F1451 140mm Blue LED Case Fans on sale for $2.99 instead of the normal $12.99!  They still have the sale going on now.  That was irresistible for me.  They give you a choice of red, blue, green, and white.  I also liked the long-life rifle bearings with only 16 dBa's of noise.

Here is how I mounted them [it was tricky because they are not mountable all the way up front unless you flatten some of the 5.25" tabs [something I was unwilling to do].

I simply drilled a couple of holes in the side of the case and used tiny zip ties to hold it perfectly in place.  4 zip ties, one for each corner and it works perfect.  I cannot hear any noise from any of them.  But best of all, by mounting this fan in the front, it creates an airflow that goes directly straight line from front to back as it passes through the Hyper 212+ CPU cooler.

Last, I like the look of the blue LED of the 140mm fan too!

I must admit, I was deeply disappointed by my Corsair H70 leaking.  I thought I had found the best inexpensive solution to cool my CPU and create much more room/airflow in my case.  When I discovered the leak I promised myself never again!  Hopefully simple yet excellent quality DIY single loop water cooling applications that are in my price range will appear one day.  Until then, I am doing the best I can with what is available.

Hope this helps you By The Way!

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Soar,

As you know I am always around! All joking apart most of the fans here now are the 200 mm variety even from Coolermaster. See below:

http://www.candccentral.co.uk/coolermaster-megaflow-200mm-case-fan-blue-led.html

I will upload a couple of pictures of the original fans for you later though for you to compare visually.

I liked your airflow system and it should work well. Nicely customised fittings.  ;)

I never really took into consideration thew viewing angles for my LCD Fan Controller but after reading your epitomy I had a look and horizontally it isn't a problem at all, something like a 140 degree total is fine. Vertically though is another matter from underneath the LCD disappears almost as soon as you dip below the horizontal, maybe 15 degrees or so but above is not so bad as long as the screen is visible so is the display. As mine is sitting on the desk next to me there isn't an issue as far as that goes but the reflecting light is a different matter!

Thanks for your extensive answer Soar! I don't think I'll be drilling holes in my case but thanks to your photo now I know how much space a 140mm fan takes up.

Regarding CM fans, here's a short topic that explains the issue:

http://forum.coolermaster.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14329

I kind of agree with their idea to go for a 1000 RPM fan, especially if you have a fan controler:

http://cmstore.coolermaster-usa.com/product_info.php?cPath=36_52&products_id=507

About huge fans, there's one 250mm fan availble here but I have my doubts if it's worth it. Here's a thought - I wish there was a 200mm Gentle Typhoon ;D.

Yes I would like to see one of those too!

The good thing about large fans is they can move a huge quantity of air without having to rotate at great speed and noise. I have my 200 mm front fan running at just 390 rpm and it is totally silent but still gives a good throughput of air.

Yes, a Typhoon 200mm would be nice!

I understand your not wanting to drill holes in your case.  Another option would be simply make a bracket to attach the fan to the 5.25" slots.  It would be easy, but take some time.  I did not have the time so I did it the quick method!

I found many more fans since last posting here....

Here's the power works 250 mm fan.  The reviews are ok, but I am nearly certain it would not work on the front of the HAF 932.  I think it may work on the side and top areas...and I like the extra goodies it comes with!

Here's the features:

250mm DC Cooling Fan (Including bezel) for PC Case
13 Bladed Clear Fan with optimal blade pitch for CFM
    Mesh Metal Fan Grill/Filter
    Black External Trim Ring
    Quiet Operation
    Do It Yourself (DIY)

Here are the specs:

Color:    Clear Fan with Black bezel
Fan Dimension:    250 x 250 x 30 mm
Rated Voltage:    DC 12V
Wattage:    11 Watts
Amperage:    0.9A
Fan Speed:    820RPM ±5%
Airflow:    105.2 CFM ±5%
Noise:    19 dBA
Connector:    4 Pin pass-through power connector

For now, I think I stick with the 230 mm fans...

DM,

You are planning on building your very own case...

May I suggest this monster fan?

The REXFLO 360mm x 30mm Silent Case Fan is as big as they get. This massive fan will quite literally cool the entire side of a case. The fan comes with a matching black bezel that protects it and allows you to mount the fan on the outside of your case's side panel so it won't interfere with any of the components inside. Despite moving a staggering 126.7 CFM, the fan is surprisingly quiet at a mere 21.7 dBA. This is largely due to the fact that the blades only spin at 600 RPM. The fan is powered using a standard 4 Pin pass-through connector, so in theory you could actually daisy chain these fans - though they draw a hefty 6 Watts each, so make sure you've got enough power to do so.

Dimensions:    360 x 360 x 30 mm
Rated Voltage:    12 V DC
Start-Up Voltage:    4.5 V DC
Rated Power:    6 W at 12 V DC
Rated Current:    0.5 A at 12 V DC
Fan Speed:    600 RPM ± 5% at 12 V DC
Airflow:    126.7 CFM ± 5% at 12 V DC
Noise:    21.7 dBA at 12 V DC
Connector:    4 Pin Pass-Through Connector

They forgot to mention this fan also enables the computer case to hover about 3 feet off the ground in mid air, just like a helicopter!
