For those in the UK of a certain age!
« on: May 09, 2011, 11:28:27 am »
This has absolutely nothing to do with computers but.......

just looking through the TV guide for Today (Monday 9th May) and I noticed that on BBC3 tonight at 7.30 pm there is a chance for all over those of a slightly older disposition to enjoy a programme from their childhood........

Noggin The Nog is being shown!!!

Now come on, how many of you remember Noggin the Nog? For those in the UK, if you have never seen or heard of him, take 10 minutes out of your busy schedule and watch this, you'll love it! Created by Oliver Postgate this was a staple of Children's TV between 1959 - 1965. Oliver also created such wonders as: The Clangers; Bagpuss; Ivor The Engine; The Pogles and the Pingwings. For more info on Oliver Postgate check here: http://www.oliverpostgate.co.uk/

Those were the days when we only had 2 TV channels (BBC and ITV) and all TV was in Black & White. Children's TV was limited to 15 minutes at lunchtime with a programme called "Watch With Mother" and 1 hour 45 minutes in the evening, finishing at 5.45 pm for the News. Computers were housed in large rooms and used punched tape or cards and were basically nothing more than giant valve operated calculators.

Well that's ok for you youngsters I guess but it was a bit after my time! I can remember when there was only one TV channel and you had to watch it on a 6" black and white screen in a box about the size of a medium cupboard. Who said good old days? Huh! ::)

See, forums don't have to be dull and boring. They can be amusing too.

And I got so carried away that Noggin the Nog was going to be on TV tonight that I posted the wrong channel. It's BBC4 not BBC3 ......... I must be older than I thought!

Ah, that's the trouble the memory isn't what it used to be. Probably just as well as I can forget some of those things I'd rather not remember! :'(

Memories now, if I could just remember what they were, I'm sure I would be happy to forget some of them!

Noggin the Nog?

Never heard of it ever before!

What planet are you guys from again?

I thought for sure you were all from the Monty Python generation...you know, as in planet Earth?

Perhaps I was mistaken!  ???

Me neither coming from OZ....5yrs now living in the fridge......You have to try and understand the general English mentality, the centre of the world is in fact England, take my mother-in-law, she unshakably believes everything invented in the last 200 years started here, ...she was amazed when she visited OZ in 2003 that we actually had supermarkets , sealed roads and sugar came in packets, even the white lines down the middle of the road mean something in Australia where in the UK their there purely for decoration........... and car indicators/blinkers are an optional extra and used as such!.

Ah Allan you have so much learn. The UK is not the centre of the world it's the centre of the Universe.  ;D
