Gigabyte Z68 UD7 BIOS support.

Hello i would like to get confirmation from Gigabyte stuff on the next subject, im planning to get the UD7 mobo soon.

Will the UD7 Z68/P67 support future Ivy Bridge processors? (will you update the BIOS in order to, and will it get future support as well, or it will be left behind after few BIOS versions?)

Good news indeed! I have just had it confirmed that all new Gigabyte 6 series motherboards will be able to support the "Ivy Bridge" CPU through a BIOS update. So that gives us somewhat of a future proofing of the motherboards. Of course Intel won't release this coding for some time yet.

Good news indeed! I have just had it confirmed that all new Gigabyte 6 series motherboards will be able to support the "Ivy Bridge" CPU through a BIOS update. So that gives us somewhat of a future proofing of the motherboards. Of course Intel won't release this coding for some time yet.

This means:  Gigabyte will release proper BIOS updates in future for this chips, (Ivy Bridge) right? or you just tell me that they will support, but future  BIOS updates from GB is still under question? thanks! and sorry for confusion i have to be sure

Obviously this is not possible at the moment as Intel is sitting on the code. As far as I know though Gigabyte will provide BIOS updates for thios when available in the future.

Lets say i get Ivy Bridge processor in future, GB release support/BIOS for it, and after 1/2 more BIOS they stop to produce anymore (new BIOS) versions, so the question is, will there be many BIOS versions (during lets say 6 months or 1 year) or just a few in order to make it work (but prolly with bugs as all early BIOS versions, from all vendors) in the past, for stock its ok but when oc you get issues/stability problems., im concern because i know everytime something new is out/near, the old stuff is forgotten.


In short, will there be continuos BIOS support, during the next months after release? not just few versions, im an overclocker and i need proper BIOS updates

Ok, fair enough, thanks alot four your effort to explain...even my questions where kind of strange, and just because i can see your trying to help etc Gigabyte will get my support, ill buy the UD7 and i will be getting future Gigabyte mobos as well, thanks one more time, highly appericated  

Just one more thing, where i live there is not much ram to buy, so i need few suggestion on which to get from the following,



Kingston CL9 Hyper X Genesis 1600mhz Model, KHX1600C9D34G

4 GB DDRIII 1333 PC3-10666 (1333MHz) CL , 240-pin DIMM, Energy management: 1.5 V.


Model, PSD34G13332.

Both models are cheap and look decent, but i must know how this ram works with the UD7, thanks in advance.

Only too happy to have been of help. Regarding the memory I haven't had any experience of either sticks personally but from the specs they look ok. I usually install Corsair, Crucial or Mushkin in my machines.

I would like to bump this thread, as some clarification is needed.

What did you mean with "all new Gigabyte 6 series"? All 6 series? Only the newest?

Sometime ago I saw a short list of 6-series Gigabyte boards which will be eligible for a BIOS upgrade, in order to support future Ivy Bridge processors. I own a GA-H67MA-UD2H-B3, and it was not in the list.

Does Gigabyte have a 6-series confirmed list of supported motherboards?

Hi

Physically the entire 6 series should be able to support the upcoming IvyBridge chips but of course that would only be after a BIOS update so they recognise them. I cannot say whether Gigabyte will customise all the board's BIOSes to enable this or not. Obviously if they have supplied a list then those are definites. Maybe even if yours isn't on the list it may be possible to get GGTS to customise a BIOS for a certain board especially if enough people are interested.

I will enquire and see if I can get a complete list as it stands at present.

It's not clear to me if this mb list refers to Ivy Bridge compatibility or native PCIe Gen 3 (maybe both?).

It's strange that I've been visiting this web page daily since I purchased the motherboard and the F7 BIOS update have just shown up today, but it's dated 20th Feb.
