DM, I tried several times to invoke the backup bios but no luck, I cant go back to F5....not sure if that will make any difference.

I also discovered that my PCI tv card disappeared again, this time when I removed and re-inserted the card, it didnt work. So I moved it to the other PCI slot and that worked for a while....until I turned on the PC few hours later, the card has disappeard again, this on a fresh install of Windows 7.

Yayo,
About the I/O shield, its cr@p, mine does not align with usb slots at the top (next to keyboard). I noticed that the ports are a bit buckled/ or that corner of the board is..so I put the keyboard in, pushing down slightly on the keyboard, insert the usb stuff.....but its sitting aligned on the stand-off perfectly.

I have raised a ticket with Gigabyte, the guy said he will let the HQ know about the I/O shild issue, I suggest you do the same, so that they know its a wider issue. I wouldnt go cutting stand-off's if other boards fitted fine why should you have to fiddle with these?

Could you do me a favour, if you have not updated your BIOS, could a make a backup of F5 bios and attach in a zip file to this post?

Thanks

Hi

You two are the firsat ones I have heard complain about this lining up problem. I would suggest that you both contact GGTS so that they are aware of it although if it was a major issue I am sure there would be many people moaning by now.

Just enter your email address and click on the language of choice.

Please expect several days for a reply.

Try flashing the BIOS back to F5 then and make sure that you untick the "Keep DMI Data" while running the update. Afterwards load Optimised BIOS Defaults in the BIOS.

You could try over at Tweaktown Forum in the USA as they often have a better range of archived BIOSes than we do here.

@ roks
I'll gladly post the bios but am waiting for a Noctua CPU cooler to right now, assembling my mousetrap will take some time, hopefully less than a week.

@ Dark Mantis
I'll do as you say, take everything apart (again) and examine the trueness of the mobo tray and mobo itself with a ruler, then measure the lenght of every single standoff. When 100% sure that it wasn't a mistake on my part, then I'll contact support. But I'm not touching anything before the new cooler arrives.  :)

Hi

That sounds like a sensible approach. It will probably all become clear once you strip everything out and have a good look at it all.

Hi guys,

It seems I am having the exact same issue with the constant reboots after cold start. I tried with F6 and the latest F7d BIOS with no luck. I tried clearing cmos, loading bios defaults, even took out the battery for a while, but the problem stays there. Even when using optimized defaults the cold boot cycle is still there! I can also get it to 4.5Ghz Prime Stable and then, if I power off, the system will go again in a post cycle that after a NON standard number of reboots ends up at the OC FAILED boot screen. I am using a 2600K with 2x4GB Kingston 1333Mhz 9-9-9-24 DIMMS, temps are ok and I really have no idea what to try next.

Hi

I would suggest that you try an extended CMOS clear as the way you did it before doesn't always work.

The next thing to try is to clear the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least six hours before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Thank you for your suggestions Dark Mantis,

I did as you suggested, and the first reboot was successful. Then, I applied the OC settings (nothing too aggressive, no CPU PLL OV, mem manually at 1333Mhz low timings etc) and tested them in windows. Everything was fine and stable. After a few minutes I shut down the PC and powered on. First post was not successful and then the second post started fine but by using the default settings!

Any other suggestions? I can tell you also that the same thing is happening even with NO OC settings, PC tries to post once and then restarts to post successfully!

Hi roks,

if you still need the F5 bios I uploaded it here
http://www.mediafire.com/?pw4yn70zgjfw9y9
It's a .zip file, so use Winzip or WinRar to open.  I apologize for the delay  :)
