Wow, thanks for the detailed instructions =)

It seems that, at the very least, the PC boots ok again, it gets past the bios screen as quickly as before. I also did a clean install of windows (figured it couldn't hurt).

However ... The fan is still not showing any sign of slowing down =/

Did the fan ever work on the speed control as some will not anyway because of different specs.
If it did I would recommend trying a different fan as it could just be faulty.

Is there enough wire length to try another fan header on the board......if you can and no change, at least your down too the fan or the board

Yep, the fan worked fine before the BIOS mess started.

I tried plugging the fan into the pwr_fan header, but then realised I had no idea how I would go about controlling that one.

What I will try is plugging my intel stock cooler into the cpu fan header, to see if that works. That should confirm if it's the cooler or not.

Bingo! but don"t forget to put the CPU in the PWR fan header while testing

Okay, so I have NO idea what just happened, but ...

I plugged the stock cooler into the cpu fan header, and installed easytune again to enable me to easily mess with the fan speed while in windows. I found that it worked - I could speed it up and slow it down as I pleased.

I then proceeded to plug the corsair cooler back in and ... It worked. It is now running silently, and like the stock cooler, I am able to control it freely using easy tune.

Problem solved ... magically.
