LGA2011 and X79 ... When,When When ... Pant,Pant!
« on: September 19, 2011, 12:22:32 pm »

Can't have Bulldozer stealing all the lime light .... So I thought I'd start a thread so everyone can post there gossip here about the up and coming LGA2011 and it's X79 platform ... so to hop right in , this is my little tit-bit ....

Core i7-3930K Will Be a six core Quad Channel CPU with 12Mb of L3 Cache , Unlocked and Probably a base clock of 3.3Ghz .... but Possibly 3.46Ghz ... The Estimated Price will be around $600 US ......The "X" (Extreme) version will be around the $1200US mark and will be very poor value for money with the only difference being an extra 100Mhz of base clock speed.....November the 15th to 25th expected release date

G1.ASSASSIN2 ... looks to be the Over-clockers / Gamers choice although I was a tad disappointed with only 4 memory slots

Now the GA-X79-UD3 and UD5 is another story ... with 8 memory slots this could be the board of choice for Photo and Video editors

Memory support will move up to quad-channel DDR3-1333 ( JEDEC Compliaint)....,and support up to 64Gb of memory ....YEE HAAAA!... so where the current Bloomfield can provide up to 25.6GB/s of bandwidth at the specified tri-channel DDR3-1066, LGA2011 kicks that figure up to 42.7GB/s—a 66% increase. The additional memory bandwidth should be particularly useful with certain workloads on the hex-core chips.

So lets here your Gossip ....... P.S ...I cannot verify but one source  said .... release of the new CPU in the states......2 weeks!

Hello Allan,

It's also got PCIe 3.0 lanes also. There's more information here -

http://vr-zone.com/articles/gigabyte-s-socket-2011-motherboard-at-computex/12430.html

Being a AMD fan, and not changing of course, which is the best board from Gigabyte at the moment?

I'm asking just out of curiosity as I was told my a very knowledgable source it is a good platform.........just trying to learn a bit more about them.

I have a P67A-UD5 and that is a cracking little board to be fair. The only thing I find about some of the lesser level boards is the lack of ports and PCIE slots often. Just too resricting but I suppose that is across the board(no pun intended.)

  Teknology9

Well What DM said is true .... it is a very good board (UD5)  but it's also about £28 to £65 dearer depending on how good you are at E-tailing.

The GA-P67X-UD3-B3 to me represent exceptional value for money for the rough criteria you set .... you don't need Lots of PCI-E slots as an editor but two is ample if you want to dabble......The  GA-P67X-UD3-B3 is in effect a reworked and re-released GA-P67-UD3-B3 ... the difference being the "X" .... this was only resonantly re- released  .... with a number enhancements over the non "X" version ...side mount Sata ports, ......Firewire controller,....larger heatsink,.....but most importantly is the Marvell 88SE9172 Sata Raid controller (Two more Sata ports thanks very much)..............at a little over £100 it represents exceptional value for money if a budget is to be considered

The Good review for you target board is here ......http://computer-supports.com/sandy-bridge-p67x-series-gigabyte-ready-to-release-a-new-motherboard/

Hello Allan,

Thanks for the advice and information, would a Core I7-2600 be a good match for this board?

Hello Allan

A Noctua should do the trick I think this one -  http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=31&lng=en&set=1  .

Knowing this its certainly food for thought, once again thanks for the recommendation you made.

That Noctua would be fine and keep the CPU cool ok. These processors are not such heat producers as their predecessors anyway and run much cooler.

@ Aussie Allan

That looks like the CoolIT or the Corsair Hydro series of watercooled unit cpu coolers, those CPU's are bound to pricey.

@ Dark Mantis. Yes I heard they run coller also, just interested in different platforms.
