Cant boot from dvd
« on: March 21, 2012, 07:59:23 am »
I set  bios to boot from dvd. But boots from hd. I set all boot option to dvd(cd). Boots again straight from hd...
Then I change the otion from 'AHCI' to 'native IDE' and dvd boot option is able to run. I have 1 sata dvd and 1 sata hd. When option is to AHCI  bios shows no ide devices, so I guess thats why cant boot from nothing else than hd.
What is this problem about and how do I solve it? Reset bios to optimal defaults didnt fix it.

Things change, they dont use ide dvd drives anymore and most motherboards have it set to where the first 2-4 sata ports can be set to ide-sata-achi and then the the other ports can be set different. Since you didnt post model of motherboard i cant tell you which are which.

So you set the first ports to achi and have hard drive hooked into them then set the last ports to ide and hook you sata dvd drive into there. Problem solved or if ytou like you can install windows from a usb drive.

Yes, things have changed and the last years I use only sata(sata dvd drive+sata2 hdd ssd). But the problem is that if AHCI in this m/b(ga ma 770t ud3 v1.5, already written in my signature) then its not possible to boot from dvd.
I dont want to install windows, I ve done that a few months ago with same devices and there was no problem, I wonder why there is now  ???

And how do I do that?
