GTX 580 CRASH WITH GAMES
« on: April 06, 2012, 11:10:20 pm »
Hello

I am having numerous issues with my GPU crashing with many games (The Witcher 2, Battelfield 3, simulator). It also crashes if I run the UNIGENE TROPICS test, especially if I kee the camera free and move it myself.

This is a new rig that a friend of mine helped me to put together and the setup is as follow,

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 OC Special Edition 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card [GV-N580UD-15I]
Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor (we OC at 4.3)
MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) Intel X79 (Socket LGA2011) DDR3 Motherboard with Thermaltake Frio Advanced Cooler
OCZ ZX Series 1000W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
Team Xtreem 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C9 2133MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit
Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (Used or OS only)
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
LiteOn iHBS112-37 12x BluRay-RW / 16 x DVD±RW Drive
LiteOn IHAS124-19 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black)
Cooler Master Silencio RC-550 Silent Tower Case
Windows 7 64bit

I can only manage to run games for few minutes and eventually they crash. I can occasionally get the UNIGENE Tropics test to run OK if I leave the camera alone, however on some occasion it did crash half way through the test.
The drivers I am using are Forceware 296.10 from NVIDIA
The card is overcloed by the manufacturer with the following settings
Core Voltage: 1063 mV
Core clock: 795 MHz
Shader clock: 1590 MHz
Memory clock 2004 MHz
Fan: Auto
Temperature idle 48
Run Furmark and managed to have temperature after 56 mins at about 82 but no crash
The firmware was F11 and updated it to F13

I tried several test, I even return the CPU clock at the normal speed but nothing seems to solve the problem and I am unsure how to troubleshoot it.
All components are brand new purchased less than a month ago.

3DMark11 manage to run both the performance and extreme tests once without crashing.

Not sure what to do here. I am thinking the GPU is defective but then I read many people have had issue with this card so not sure how to proceed.

I have sent a message to gigabyte but I am not sure  they will help me troubleshoot the issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, forgot to mention that after a crash and a rest, most of the times I get a long beep and 2 short beeps warning that the GPU has failed and I need to swicth of the system (PSU) and switch on again.
