Problem with GA-Z77X-UD3H PCI x16 slot
« on: November 02, 2012, 02:35:35 pm »
Hello,

Ive been looking around for a solution to a problem im having but have had no luck.  Here is whats happening:

I have a Radeon HD 7850 but when i have it installed in the x16 pci slot my computer will turn on but my monitor stays in standby mode.  But if i push in the video cable connected to the graphics card most of the time my display does come on.  When I tried to intall the graphics card in the x8 pci slot it worked fine without problems.

Another thing to note is when i use the integrated graphics on the cpu it works almost all the time (on rare occasions the monitor still stays in standby mode when using integrated graphics).  Ive tried different displays including a new TV but i still get the same problem.

Does anybody have any idea what could be casuing this?

My specs are:

CPU:      Intel Core Ivy Bridge i5 3570K
MB:       Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H  (should have F18 installed)
GC:        XFX Double D FX-785A-CDFC Radeon HD 7850
HDD:     Seagate ST2000DM001 Barracuda 7200RPM 2 TB SATA 6 GB/s
PS:        OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W
MEM:     Team Xtreem Dark Series DDR3 1600 16GB (4x4GB)

Hi,
I am experiencing a similar problem with my Z77-D3H and Gigabyte GV-R777OC-1GD video card in the PCI Express x16 slot.  When I turn the computer on the fan on the video card spins briefly and then stops.  No video is transmitted from the card to the monitor.  My on board display works fine though.

I've been searching but I haven't found a solution.

Thanks

I've been searching for over an hour now about how to users did a replace/ upgrade on their video card. Sorry about your trouble, looks like were in the same boat.

had a meager GT430 installed on the PCI-E slot 1 of my 990FXA UD5, which I then replaced with a HD6670. Upon power up, letters and numbers (ala Matrix) started floating on the screen which Im certain means trouble.

So Im probably doing this wrong... or.. it might be a board bios issue. How do you perform an upgrade on a video card anyway? I suspect, I should NOT have removed the GT430 and instead added the 2nd card (HD6670) in other PCI-E slot and then allowed the BIOS to recognize it. Is that correct?
