I've just bought an X79-UP4 board with i7 3820 CPU and Crucial RAM (confirmed compatible on Crucial website). The system just won't start, it won't even POST. There are no error beeps, the CPU fan spins but nothing else, obviously I can't access the BIOS either. The guy in the repair shop says the board is likely faulty so I'm arranging an exchange.
My graphics card is currently an old (but still working in my X38) BFG Nvidia 9600GT (PCI-e x16) - is this likely to be causing a problem? If the graphics card was not compatible, would there be error beeps? The card is from 2007/8 but still functioning until I can upgrade it.
Also, I notice on the Gigabyte site that this CPU is supported from BIOS version f2 - if I had an f1 board, there would be no way to flash the BIOS without a compatible CPU (all the supported CPUs are from f2 onwards so I'm guessing this would be unlikely as none would ever work!)
The entire system is just 24 hours old, new 750W PSU as well. I'm getting a replacement board but trying to determine whether this will have the same problem
