Unable to get sli x16/x16
« on: January 20, 2014, 05:19:41 pm »
Hiya newbie here, I have a gigabyte z77-up7 with bios F5, Intel i7-3770k  and 2x gtx680ftw 4gb and the problem is getting my gtx680 sli running at x16/x16, with gpuz its shows 1 card at pcie 3 at x16 and other card pcie 3 x8 although it does say the card supports x16 but running at x8. The other problem is the Atheros lan port not working, there is a light on in the port but windows doesn't even see the port, have tried installing drivers but with no success.
thanks in advance for any help given

Stevie

Do you have the cards in PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_3 slots? Plus what does it say in Nvidia control panel.

With the lan try changing it from enabled to disabled. Boot the computer to windows. Then restart it.

Go back in and change back to see if windows now picks it up as new hardware.

Yes the video cards are in slot pciex16_1 and pciex16_3, NVidia system info is picking up both cards as pci express x16 gen 3 so I guess its maybe a fault with gpuz. I will give that a shot with the lan, thanks for the help

Just tried that with the lan but no joy, tried to install the drivers and get the error QUALCOMM Atheros Ethernet controller cant be found with it enabled in bios, I guess its went to lan port heaven lol

The only other thing is get a add-on nic card. Did you always have this problem or did it show up after the bios update.

I notice you are running F5. Have you tried to clear the cmos and pull the battery to see if that helps. I'm just throwing somethings out there for you.

I don't know if this problem has always been there I always used the top port but when reconnecting it back up after a dust cleanout I connected up to the Atheros and wondered why I couldn't get online and so it stemmed from there. Been reading about this x16/x16 again and it appears that yes my cards are x16 enabled however its is only running at x8 speed (1 card is x8 and other is x16 gen 3), I tried a stress test on gpu to see if it was a power saving feature but it didn't revert to the x16. I understand there is like 1% increase in performance if it was x16 over x8 its just the niggling thing about it lol. Will go try that with clearing cmos and removing battery.

thanks again

I was a big Sli & xfire junkie for years. I just use one card now. I try and get the one with highest GB of memory too.

Here is video to watch that you can play around with this too
