Does ga-x58a-ud3r support ATA password?

I can't seem to find the option in BIOS. It passed for a decent board when I was shopping, can it be missing the feature?

Please clarify.  Are you referring to the ATA password for a HDD?

If yes...  this is not actually a common feature.  While there is limited support from some manufacturers...  it's just not that common.  I sure wouldn't base the quality of a board solely on the inclusion of this feature.

It you want encryption, and are using windows use Bitlocker.

If you have a drive you have locked for whatever reason and want to attempt unlock and recovery, use a Ubuntu Live DVD v12.10 is current

GParted and the terminal utility can help you beat a locked drive into submission.

Yes, ATA password is HDD password. I need it to make use of my SSD's self-encrypting capabilities, I don't want software encryption. My laptop has it and it is 3 years older than this motherboard, that puzzled me.

Indeed it's more practical in a mobile application.  Desktop boards are less common.

I did a google search.  Didn't find much in the way of desktop boards.
