GA-Z87X-UD3H PCIe wifi slow when playing games (gpu load)
« on: February 28, 2014, 05:23:57 pm »
I am using Asus PCE-N15 wifi card and it slows A LOT when playing games. My torrent speeds drop from 1500kbps to <50 kbps, and gets right back up when i turn off the game. I have a usb wifi dongle so this is not router or connection problem. I tried different drivers, different pcie slots, tried wifi card only in pcie slots, updated BIOS and reinstalled windows - nothing helps. Contacted Asus support but they are of little help for now.

Was it working and than you started having problems? Because over on NewEgg 147 out 503 give 2 eggs or lower. It more like the Asus card than the mother board.

Im not sure when it started, i noticed it just recently. I think R9 290x drivers is causing this, but i must do another windows reinstall to check this theory. Anyway its not a solution to not install a graphics card software.

edit1: i just loaded my cpu with prime 95 to 100% and wifi signal is good. Its pure gpu load that messes up my asus card connection.

edit2: ok i reinstalled windows. installed wifi drivers, firefox, flash player, torrent client and nothing more. connection is good and stable, download speed drops only for youtube traffic, i can see youtube preloading video very fast.

What CPU are you running? If it is a i7 did you try to unpark the cores that are park.

i have i7 4770k. i dont think cpu is the problem but i can try it later. for now im installing everything 1by1. i installed all gigabyte drivers and connection seems fine.

im almost sure its my graphics card, but i cant load my gpu without installing r9 290x drivers.. or maybe there is a way? because ones i install it its hard to fully go back.

ps: my connection is fine now because i reinstalled windows and didnt install gigabyte r9 290x drivers, so its imposible to check if the fix is valid. i want to find whats realy causing this. its not cpu for sure because its fine now.

I was looking at the book to make sure that the PCIE1 was sharing with the PCIE16 slot. It doesn't by what the book is showing.

Now the thing is by the old rules. You should really install your chip-set drivers before you install anything else.

You might have already done this but if you are using just wireless card. I would disable everything else that has to do with nic cards.

I already disabled ethernet and iGPU in BIOS. So is there a way to stress gpu without installing the drivers?

Gigabyte drivers i installed:
Intel Management Engine Interface
Intel INF installation
Intel USB 3.0 Driver

there are no entries left in device manager that require a driver update. should i install any sata drivers?

The only other thing is have you tried to move the wireless card around to the other slots?

Other than that I don't know what else to tell you to try. I myself never like those cards, never had good like with them.

Yes i have moved to other slots, i havent tried pciex8 (crossfire slot) though. The weirdest thing is that I also tried removing all pcie devices and leaving only wifi card and the problem still remained. Could the problem be the PCIE drivers that come in Catalyst package?

EDIT: installed amd drivers - connection is considerably worse in gerneral, launched a game - speed drops to 300kbp (from 1500kbps). this must be either amd driver or gigabyte bios/driver problem.
