Z68ap-d3 - Weird artifact screen instead of Bios start up screen.

Hello. I'm in need of help from people smarter than myself.

Whenever I use the 390 GPU, I get the screen below instead  of the screen that shows the BIOS manufacturer with the F-Key options at the bottom. When using my GTX 760, it works fine.

It's worth noting that I've had FIVE different 390's (Returned 4), they all do the same thing. Despite the artifact on system boot, the 390 seems to work fine, benchmarks are in line with review benchmarks, no artifacting once the system is booted.

Do I need to update the BIOS/Driver? Does anyone have any idea what's wrong, or did I really get so unlucky that I got 5 broken cards.

If it working fine in windows then yes I would try to update the bios. Then the other thing is you are using that nice new card on a old board. That could be the problem. Plus a bios might not work.

What version board are you running and CPU.

I have ga-z68ap-d3 (Rev 2.0). Dxdiag says the BIOS is: Award Modular BIOS V6.00PG (No idea what that means tbh).

Thanks for helping btw. :)

If you click the start button / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Information.

In there it should tell you "Bios Version / Date".

I don't know what to say or then we have gone through this many times with people on this series board. The board is old and you are trying to run a new card on the old board.

Yes the board can run 3.0 cards but you can't really update the bios to support newer card Sorry. Plus there is another problem and that is you are running windows 10.

I actually ordered a 4790k (upgrade from 3570k) and an MSI Gaming 5 Motherboard. We'll see if that helps. They are arriving today, so once I get it all setup, I'll post back here and let you know if it was the old Z68 MB causing it or not. :)

I have this issue also and wondered if the age of the system  played a part. Now I know. Thank you.
Everything else works fine so it's good for now. Great excuse to upgrade though.

The thing is I could see maybe 2 of them having the problem. But 5 with the same problem I don't think SO.

So it turns out it actually was my motherboard. My PC works fine now. No artifacts on booting.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the chances of 5 GPU's being faulty, good thing consumer laws here allow people to return products within 7 days for any reason, or no reason at all. :)

I'm not just say you but more people try to get new items to work with old items. Yes sometimes you might get away with it, but more likely you will not. The other thing you will have better luck with older video cards on new boards VS newer cards on older boards.

Here is one you might want to read and I was told I didn't know what I was talking about. The board was even older then yours. But glad you got it fix running right.

Obviously ,it is a compatible issue between motherboard and the graphic card.
can you tell us  the model of your graphic card ? so that other users can try to prevent the same issue.
