GA-M750-SLI DS4 - purple ports bootable?
« on: May 30, 2010, 01:46:31 pm »
The above board has 6 SATA ports

Bank of 4 Orange
Bank of 2 Purple

Can the purple ports be used for bootable devices i.e HDD DVD etc?  (I think these are for RAID only, correct me if I'm wrong?)

I have 6 SATA devices I need to control.  New motherboard required?

Hi,

checking through the manual for your Mobo, it states that:
Quote
Due to a chipset limitation, the SATA2_4/SATA2_5 connectors (the purple ones) only support AHCI/RAID mode

If you enable AHCI when you install the OS, rather than IDE, then you should be able to use the 2 purple ports for bootable devices.

Hope this helps

Give that man a cigar.

Brilliant, works.  Didn't know what AHCI was but Googled it and found the below guide:

http://www.ithinkdiff.com/how-to-enable-ahci-in-windows-7-rc-after-installation/

It works without having to reinstall windows 7.

Thanks.
