X58A-UD5 and Crossfire 5870 Question ..........

X58A-UD5 and Crossfire 5870 Question ..........
« on: June 02, 2010, 09:55:27 am »
Hi

I have a Gigabyte X58A-UD5 motherboard and a pair of Gigabyte (GV-R587D5-1GD-B) 5870s in Crossfire.

Due to the layout of the board - i.e. the distance between the PCIe slots, when the cards are both in they are just about touching - 1-2mm gap, at best.

I would like to move the the cards to slots 1 and 3 to give better air flow to each of the fans as when the second card is installed the "first" card temperature raises by ~10 degrees and the second runs ~10 degrees hotter still

Although this is fine when idle, when under load they do get toasty.

To move the cards to slots 1 and 3 requires a long (100mm) CF Bridge - which is not provided by either the motherboard or GFX cards.

I have a long standing, ongoing, thread with GTS - but it is going round in circles and basically I am being fobbed off.

Surely, after spending c£1000 on Gigabyte products, Gigabyte could send me a long CF bridge ?

Pleae can you help?

Hi
I don't think that you would want to use the 1 and 2 PCIe slots anyway because if they are the same as on my UD7 motherboard the first slot is 16x and the second is only 8x whereas the third is 16x again so it would definitly be beneficial; to use slots 1 and 3. Obviously you would need a longer bridge.

The difference between x8 and x16 is negligable (2-3 FPS at most) when CFing 5870s (the UD5 reccomended is slots 1 and 2)

Obvisouly I do need a long bridge - but Gigabyte dont provide this with either their mobo or GFX and im of th eopinion that after soending £1k on theor products they should be providing me with this, not me buying one ................

I wouldn't think that's too much to ask when you are buying into a premium range of products. Maybe they will come across with one when they finally read your email. Maybe runn3R(moderator) can help.

Lets hope so because this "debate" has been going on for weeks on their GTS who, quite frankly, just appear to be trying to fob me off..............

Is that a common trend wih GTS ?

I am, quite honestly, shocked with the level of customer service shown to date - hopefully someone from Gigabyte here can help ?

GTS have now advised me that "GBT UK will contact you asap" - I do hope so

We shall see

Well, surprise, surprise, no reply from GTS, no reply from GBT UK and no reply from anyone from Gigabyte here .........

That's Customer Service for you  ::)

I must agree, Their customer service is some of the worst I have ever found. They just don't seem to care once you have made your purchase. What does make me laugh is that they have the audacity to put a banner ad at the top of the page in big letters regarding PC Pro 2010 awards " What do you think of our support?"

Yeah Gigabyte CS blows and so does there QC. I got so fed up with there lies and fake fixes that I have moved on to Asus. I am so happy I made that move as I will never look back.

They couldn't do better if they were trying to frighten away customers. :(  I made the move to Gigabyte from Asus but I am sure I will move back next time.
