M.2 SSD ( on QVL) incompatible with New BIOS

Long story short  new BIOS versions do not work ( lock up on splash ) with my M.2 Drive inserted .

 The X370 and other AMD boards by Gigabyte have BIOS releases for Ryzen 3K . I have pre-ordered a 3900X and am in a quandary because I cannot run latest BIOS , therefore wont be able to upgrade the CPU

My M.2 is actually on Gigabyte's QVL SM951, however the QVL was created long, long before the latest BIOS updates . I have opened a ticket but have not been given a solution .

I guess the workaround would be to purchase a 'proven working' M.2  , or Gigabyte should send me a X570 or M.2 for giving me work ( potential cloning / moving data ) ?

What specific error are you seeing, or what evidence do you have that the m.2 is the issue?  Did you perform a fresh install of your OS?  Or are you speculating because the system won't start?

Please provide your complete system specs and the BIOS rev you are running.  If you have submitted a ticket, this information should be readily available.  What troubleshooting steps have you performed? 

I'm not saying a problem doesn't exist, but you've not provided enough information here for us to try and help.

Its a real strange one because the only evidence is the board gives the boot error code , which is 0d.

The system hangs on the splash screen, the caps key wont work , no input is detected  . I posted this on another forum , and someone had the exact issue and suggested removing the M.2 Drive . This did mean that I could update and load the bios .  However as soon as the M.2 drive gets re-instered I get the same problem . So I have to revert back to BIOS V25 ( by removing the M.2 and flashing back/ switching  to old version

My specs are in Sig , Bios Version is the only info missing here ! Anything over 25 and there is problems with the M.2 inserted

Just looked at your other post.  Your drive is not on the QVL.

If your hardware isn't on the QVL, it hasn't been tested or certified compatible. A OEM drive pulled from another device will be hit or miss.

No, it doesn't.  It wasn't on the list in the first place. If it worked at all with any BIOS rev you were lucky.

They cannot test or certify hardware with every BIOS release.  They also can't be expected to test against hardware "pulled" from another device.

Yeah after further deliberation , GB did point that out on the ticket .  I conflated it with another drive ( very similar part number)
They actually Do support OEM  M.2 Drives though , mine is just not on it . I went for A PM981 , which is another OEM drive - should work in theory though

Good luck and enjoy that 3900 when it ships.  I'm not an AMD user for many years, but the Ryzen has certainly proven itself as an alternative to Intel.  Has some quirkiness, but good overall for those who want to tinker and OC. Nice that it comes with a Wrath cooler too.
