NVME support on GA-H97-HD3
« on: July 16, 2020, 01:55:34 pm »
I have BIOS version 8 . Version 6 says 'Support NVMe device'. Does that mean a particular device or any device?

I tried to connect a samsung 970 evo plus nvme with a pci to m2 adapter, and also set the bios pci4 slot to 4 lanes but still my system wont see it.

I've read that H97 intel chipset can support nvme. Do i have any hope?

Did you go into Disk Management to see if it is there? If it isn't format it might not see it.

Plus it might say that your Bios will support NVMe. But it really doesn't on some drives.

The Z170 board was the 1st board to really support NVMe drives.

One other thing did you buy the adapter by itself. I have had problems with NVMe side on the adapters. On that kind of board. In the past just like you are having.

Does it have a Sata port connection. If so try that to see if it works.

Greetings,

This is going to be hit or miss...  probably more miss.  I was surprised to see nVME support listed for BIOS F6.  Almost think its a mistake.. The Z97 boards don't have this at all.

If supported, I think your challenge will be the card more so than the drive (960/970). Board is 6 yrs old.

The other day I was messing around with my main computer. I had to pull out my M.2 sata adapter card. I had to use it to read a drive that I had to get some stuff off of it. Like most cards like this you have NVMe & sata ports.

The motherboard supports NVMe so I was able to use the NVMe port. What I'm getting at is if your motherboard doesn't support NVMe it will not read your drive in that port. So you have to use the sata port to read your drive. Plus more likely the NVMe drive will not fit in that port too.
